MY sister was the one who suggested I try Gables Diner out because of the burger. I would eat at this same location years ago when it was J.J.’s American Diner. Another plus is that it’s across the street from Ben & Jerry’s.
As far as their appetizers go, their Southwestern Chicken Egg Rolls (Blackened Chicken, Roasted Corn, Red Onions , Cheddar & Goat Cheese, Cilantro and served with a creamy BBQ sauce) is ridiculous. This thing is no joke and is not like the crap you get at those chain restaurants.

Southwestern Chicken Egg Rolls
If you get their basket of Sweet Potato Fries (which are exceptional), they are served with a homemade Blue Cheese dipping sauce that made me want to dip everything in it (not my balls though ala The State). The other item on the menu that I also deeply love is the Crispy Chicken Basket. These oversized chicken strips breaded in Panko (they’re Japanese, the bread crumbs not the chicken) bread crumbs and fried real crispy are served with their cilantro mustard sauce and is just plain awesome.

There are two burgers on their menu: their 10 oz. Beef Hamburger and the Holy Smoke Cheeseburger (crispy Onions, Cheddar Cheese, Applewood Smoked Bacon and an Apricot BBQ Sauce. I also happen to think that this burger is larger than 10 oz, it’ pretty heavy. A Turkey Burger is also available (if you wanna be a stickler that would make three on the menu) .

Holy Smoke Burger
The Holy Smoke has become one of my go to local burgers and is one I highly suggest you try. If you do make it through their apps and dinner, then try their Old Fashioned Louisiana Apple Raisin Bread Pudding with Vanilla sauce. If not, you can always go to the Ben & Jerry’s across the street and get a Vermonster but choose your flavors wisely.
Unfortunately the Gables Diner Closed.
