Steak ‘n Shake In Hallandale Beach, Florida

El Rey de las Fritas

Steak ‘n Shake is one of those places that is hit and miss. I was with my parents as we drove by one and they suggested we eat there. The last time I ate at a Steak ‘n Shake was 5 years ago so I didn’t even remember what I had back then. I saw Chili on the menu and thought, they must have Chili Cheese Fries and they did.

Chili Cheese Fries

I thought the Fries which are these crispy little things were ok, Nacho Cheese is pretty good but damn did I hate that Chili (big Beans, little Meat and liquid-y sauce do not a good Chili make). I found them bad enough that we ordered an order of just Cheese Fries instead. My father ordered the Patty Melt which was good and tasted just like any other Patty Melt I’ve ever had (yes I tasted his sandwich) and is there really an original tasting Patty Melt out there?

My mom had the Mushroom and Swiss Double Steakburger (I didn’t hear a peep out of her so she must have like it) while I went with their Triple Steakburger with Cheese, Bacon and Mayo.

Triple Cheeseburger

Now I know what you’re saying, was a triple really necessary? And all I have to say is, have you ever had a Steak ‘n Shake burger? There is no way that Triple Steakburger was even 8 0z. (half a pound for you common folk). The Burger was nice and greasy (but nothing really out of this world). The best part was that it was served on a toasted bun.

My parents also had Shakes (Moms – Chocolate, Pops – Vanilla), while they loved them I thought they tasted like Farm Stores Ice Cream (I like Farm Stores Ice Cream for the record) but I was expecting a little more. So if you’re driving by a Steak ‘n Shake and thinking about stopping, remember it’s hit or miss.

Someone didn’t cook the chili at the right temperature! It’s suppost to be thicker!

OK, first, I am not a huge fan of Steak and Shake. Their food is OK. But Johnny Rocket's?? The one in Ft. Lauderdale moved out to the casino. I went there 3 times. The first time the food was bad, the second worse, and the third I walked out after looking at the hamburger placed in front of me and not touching it. Yes, I paid and tipped–not the fault of the workers–but it was the worst hamburger I have ever seen or tasted. What did I miss? At least at Steak and Shake they give you actual food to eat, even if it isn't to your personal taste. At JR it wasn't even food. Ugh!

Really? Steak and Shake rocks! by the price you get two burgers you get one anywhere else, and they’re amazingly great. SaS is far the best burger place out there.

I’m going to have to agree with Diego. Steak & Shake has never let me down. Four top, stuff your face, and the bill is under $20.00. Not only that the food is great for a sit down fast food joint. I will agree that the chili has its on and off days, but come on under $2.00 for a cup of chili, you cant beat that. Suck it up!

I promised myself never to go to this joint again. I even sent a nasty e-mail to their corporate headquarters. Last time I went there, it took the 20 minutes to get my shake that I ordered to go. When I asked for a supervisor or manager to inquire about the delay….my worst idea. The person I spoke with had a shirt that must have been on her for months…just looking at the collar told me that. When the supervisor came, she wasn’t much better either. Then it hit me, if these dirty people are the ones in charge of cooking/serving my food, what happens to the areas or people that I don’t see. In short, I never went again…and never will.
