I had read about The Vortex Bar & Grill and their Double Coronary Burger in quite a few places online. What is the Double Coronary you ask? Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. When we arrive, the wait is well over an hour but we make the decision to hang around. The place has a 90s alternative vibe and wide array of odd items throughout which I like.

The Vortex Decor
We decide on 3 appetizers, the Bad-Ass Buffalo Wings ( original buffalo style), Fried Zucchini and Cheddar Bites. I’ve never had zucchini before, so I try it and decide I could live without it. My friends John and Isaac love it and they can keep them.

Cheddar Bites
The wings were good, nice sauce but nothing you haven’t tasted elsewhere. Of the 3, I liked the Cheddar Bites the best. The horseradish served with it was killer too. John orders the Classic Cheeseburger with cheddar cheese and tater tots. John likes his burger but seems more impressed with the tater tots, they were just OK if you ask me.

Classic Cheeseburger
Isaac and I decide to split the Double Coronary Burger. The Double Coronary Burger is a half pound sirloin burger topped with 2 fried eggs, 4 slices of american cheese, 5 slices of bacon and 2 grilled cheese sandwiches replacing the buns. It’s massive.

Double Coronary
We were seated right next to the bar, and everyone’s attention was on our table because of the Double Coronary. Now, because this place gets so packed, the people standing by the bar are blocking the walkway to the tables. It doesn’t phase our waiter who’s pushing people out of his way every time he goes to our table. It was a rather amusing way to pass the time, plus I’m sure most of those people deserved it. Getting back to the burger, I thought it was great but Isaac didn’t seem too impressed. There is a whole slew of things I want to try on their menu, but I guess that’s for next time.
