I met with a crew of bloggers at Tom Jenkins’ BBQ (Ft. Lauderdale) to grab lunch. My wife Marcela and I arrive fashionably late, as it’s our new Miami thing.
When we walk into Tom Jenkins’ BBQ, a few of the crew are already sitting down with their food. The other half is receiving theirs. After reviewing the menu, we decide to do the old divide-and-conquer routine and order two different things.
Marcela orders the beef brisket with mac n’ cheese, coleslaw, and cornbread.
When she opens the box, I see her staring at the protein. She is not a fan of fatty beef brisket, which means we would now be switching platters.
Everything else she enjoyed. In particular, coleslaw, which is her jam.
The rib & chicken combo with mac n’ cheese, fries, and cornbread called my name this time, so I went with it. We also shared four hush puppies which is the minimum hush puppies order.
The ribs weren’t fall off the bone but were still delicious. Now, the chicken was amazin’. The sides were solid, but the mac n’ cheese was better than the fries.
No pictures of the hush puppies; they were right on also.
After talking to one of our lunchmates, he mentioned pork is always the way to go at Tom Jenkins’ BBQ. This is the kind of conversation that should have happened before I ordered; I guess it does pay to arrive on time.
