Cooper’s Resto Bar – Pinecrest, Florida

By

Nelson and I met up with Tom Bowker, who at the time was writing an article for the Miami Herald on Burger Beast (which would become “Man vs. Meat“, it came out this past Thursday). To give a little background on Tom, he also manages Porno Funk Legend Blowfly. Look Blowfly up, he’s quite a character. The 3 of us drive to Cooper’s Resto together and when we arrive there’s maybe one other table with folks at it. Cooper’s Resto had just opened for lunch so don’t think this place is some of restaurant on the outs, it’s actually very nice. Tom places his recorder on the table to make sure to capture every captivating word out of Nelson and my mouth. As we’re looking over the menu, we decide to order the Mini Meatballs and the Truffle Mac and Cheese. Tom seemed like he was leaning towards having the Kobe Beef Sliders Three Way (I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say these must be American Style Kobe). We decide to add the three pack to the starters order. We all go with the Cooper’s Angus Burger. We talk about about burgers, what else could he really want to talk to us about. Well we do deviate at one point and talk music. Good music, not what’s on the radio which would in turn lead the weirdest event of the day. The Mini Meatballs were dry probably because they appeared to have been deep fried. The Florida Citrus Remoulade dipping sauce was good though. The meatballs were good too just a bit dry. The Truffle Mac & Cheese with its three cheeses, black truffle shavings and white truffle oil was amazing. It was probably the best thing I had for lunch with the Red Onion/Blue Cheese Slider a close second. The slider was way juicy and although cooked a little bit above Medium it still retained its flavor. The burger was good but nothing extraordinary. It did in fact remind of Clarke’s. The fries were really good though. Tom couldn’t stop eating them, don’t think I didn’t notice that. Tom also never once gave his opinion on what he thought On our way out as Tom heads to the restroom, the lady at the table next to us stops Nelson and I. She tells us she overheard our music conversation and was wondering if Tom was Yanni‘s manager. She busts out a picture of her and Yanni’s manager. The guy looks a bit like Tom but if she already met the dude, wouldn’t she have known it was him? The scariest part is if the vast majority of the population doesn’t know who Yanni is, how does she know who his manager is?
