Ingrid Hoffman’s Guachup Sauce

The Guachup Recipe

Ingrid Hoffman’s Guachup

Ingredients:

  • 2 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil
  • 1 Yellow Onion – Chopped
  • 8 ounces Guava Paste
  • 1/4 Cup Dark Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Ground All Spice
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Curry Powder
  • 2 Oranges – Juiced
  • 3 Limes – Juiced
  • 2 Tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar

Directions:

Step 1: Heat the vegetable oil in a saucepan over medium-high heat for 2 minutes.

Step 2: Add the onions and saute until soft and browned (4 minutes).

Step 3: Stir in the guava paste, brown sugar, allspice, curry powder, orange juice, lime juice and vinegar.

Step 4: Cook over low heat until the guava paste has melted, about 15 minutes, stirring often.

Step 5: Remove from the heat, cool slightly, and then transfer to a blender and puree until completely smooth.
