On June 4th, 15 restaurants will be competing against each other in Riverwalk Trust’s Burger Battle. The event will take place at the Riverside Hotel Lawn at 620 E. Las Olas Blvd. A panel of local celebrity judges will name one restaurant’s burger the “Best Burger in Fort Lauderdale.” The $40 entrance fee (only $30 if you prepay) includes burger samples from the competing restaurants, live music and complimentary wine and beer.

Chef Allen Susser: Chef Allen is known as one of South Florida’s favorite local chef’s. Food and Wine Magazine named Allen Susser as one of the top 10 New Chef in America in 1991. Time Magazine called Allen’s cuisine “a New World marvel”. In May of 1994, Chef Allen Susser received The James Beard Foundation’s Best Chef Award 1994, Southeast region. He has also published several books including New World Cuisine and Cookery and The Great Mango Book. His restaurant in Aventura, Chef Allen’s, is participating in the Burger Battle as the French Fry Bar sponsor.
Chef Director Jack Kane: Chef Jack Kane is the Culinary Director at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale is one of The Art Institutes, a system of more than 45 education institutions located throughout North America, providing an important source of design, media arts, fashion and culinary professionals. The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale has received numerous awards including the Chef’s Palette restaurant 2005 American Culinary Federation’s Achievement of Excellence Award and the coveted 2001 Career College of the Year Distinguished Performance Award from the National Alliance of Business.
Jimmy Cefalo: Jimmy Cefalo is a former Dolphin football player and play-by-play man on the Miami Dolphins radio broadcast team. He is the current is the host of 610 WIOD’s South Florida First News. He has been the Sports Director at WPLG television in Miami since 1993, hosting the station’s Sports Jam Live program and is a well-known oenophile, with over 1,200 bottles in his personal wine cellar. His love of wine has led to two Miami-area emporiums: Cefalo’s Wine Cellar and Cefalo’s Wine Corner.
Keith Sims: Keith Sims is a former American football player in the National Football League who played offensive line for eleven seasons between 1990 and 2000 for the Miami Dolphins and the Washington Redskins. He was elected to the Pro Bowl three times, in 1993, 1994 and 1995. Sims continues is active in philanthropic events and currently lives in South Florida.
The event takes place at 620 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301. Parking will be available on the street or in the Riverside Hotel parking garage (behind the Cheesecake Factory). Tickets are sold out.
