The Burger Beast Top 5 Croqueta List

A few weeks back the New Times posted a list of the Top 5 Croquetas in Miami which I vehemently disagreed with. After some consideration and re-testing of my favorites I had to move one out of the Top 5 and bring in a new fellow (La Casona). So here they are, my Top 5 Croquetas in reverse order to build some non-existent drama:

5 - La Casona

4 - Luis Galindo's Latin American

3 - Caribe Cafe Restaurant

2 - Sergio's

1 - Islas Canarias Cafe

These 5 are all must tries so what are you waiting for? Get out there and check them out because I’m expecting a full report.

About Burger Beast

I started writing the Burger Beast food blog to tell folks about those little forgotten gems in South Florida. Over the course of the last 5 years or so I've added News, Opinions, & Tips on a variety of Food related subjects. My first love will always be Burgers but Comfort Food is where it's at. At the end of the day I’m a regular dude who writes about a bunch of things I think you should know about.

How did Versailles croquetas did not make the list?!!! SHOCKED!

  • Ellen

I have had Islas Canarias Cafe
and are my all time favorite, have had Sergios and La Casona and from all of the 3 I have listed my MUST HAVE are…………..Islas Canarias Cafe
I am so addicted to those I have a friend from work that lives by them and sometimes I will ask her to bring me some…..My eyes light up when I get them….

La Palmas have the best, that’s the one for years everyone I know always light up when you mention it.

After taking place in the Croqueta crawl a few months ago, I have to agree 100% with Islas being #1. Versailles did not even compare with the crispy handmade deliciousness of Islas!

If you haven’t tried these already, you need to try Sra. Martinez, Michy’s, and Dolores but call me Lolita. They have amazing croquetas, which I rate just ahead of Islas Canarias. Actually, Dolores Lolita and Islas Canarias teeter back and forth, but Michelle Bernstein knows her croquetas!

The best croqueta I ever had was at Ola restaurant and it was served with Parmesan ice cream. Way to much money but I never had anything like it ever again.

I am a true croqueta lover (and croqueta maker) and when I read your top 5, I just had to try it, I had not had a croqueta from Isla Canarias in years….I just drove by and picked up a couple for breakfast, I hate to say that I am a little dissapointed. Call me crazy, but the first ingredient in a croqueta is supposed to be the meat. The bechamel is just the binder, flour should not be the major ingredient. I don’t know if I just ate a ham or chicken croqueta. Don’t get me wrong, it was tasty enough but not good enough to make it the number 1 croqueta. Have you ever had the croquetas at Casavana’s on SW 137th and 152 St.? In the category of inexpensive croquetas, I thinks Casavanas is pretty decent. It just would not be fair to compare these croquetas to Michy’s, Michelle doesn’t make a croqueta that you can pick up for breakfast on your way to work, but I would really love to find a place that truly makes a great croqueta. I am on a mission now to try as many different croquetas as I can…lol.

OK, I am a croqueta fanatic and must admit that I do love Michelle Bernstein’s and Versailles’ but Sergio’s are pretty great too and of course La Carreta.

But…when I was growing up, the ones I loved the most were from Rosa Bakery on LeJeune Road which is now Rosa Restaurant. My dad used to bring me croquetas from all over Miami but those were TOPS!

And I need to be clued in on these croqueta crawls!!!

Diana Bakery on 7 st & 23 ave Nw. Best Croquetas!!!

ISLAS CANARIAS croquetas ALL THE WAY! I always buy 300 of their party size croquettes on Holidays and they always fly in the first couple of hours. They are HEAVENLY!

  • Tony

Bro, just buy a 20 pack of Catalina’s croquettas and have mama fry them up on a Sunday Morning with some cuban toast and pastelitos. Pure heaven!!!!

Islas Canarias are the best – especially fresh-truly addictive!
