Riverwalk Trust’s Burger Battle II in Pictures

Another year, another great Burger Battle. Returning Judges and People’s Champs Georgie’s Alibi and Capital Grille returned but in the end Georgie’s retained their title and Ft. Lauderdale found a new People’s champ, Rok Brgr. The Krystal Slider contest went into overtime and I had a blast being a judge alongside the likes of Chef Bil Mitchell (Publix Apron’s Cooking School), Eric Barton (editor of New Times Broward-Palm Beach), John Offerdahl (former Miami Dolphins football player & restaurateur), Mayor of Fort Lauderdale Jack Seiler and his wife Susan Seiler, Chef Director Jack Kane (Program Chair of Culinary Arts at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale) and one of the funniest guys on the planet Chef Ralph Pagano (finalist on the hit Fox Network TV series “Hells Kitchen” and Executive Chef at STK).

I’m looking forward to next year but in the meantime check out pics of the food. All pictures are courtesy of my wife, la Señora Beast. If I didn’t give her credit she might kill me, lol…..just kidding honey.

About Burger Beast

I started writing the Burger Beast food blog to tell folks about those little forgotten gems in South Florida. Over the course of the last 5 years or so I've added News, Opinions, & Tips on a variety of Food related subjects. My first love will always be Burgers but Comfort Food is where it's at. At the end of the day I’m a regular dude who writes about a bunch of things I think you should know about.

My wife and I had a great time judging with you, too! If you are doing this on a regular basis, you’ve got the best gig going in South Florida. Look forward to working (eating) with you again. Best wishes, Burger Beast!

  • Tried the Knock out Burger on Saturday. It was good…but not as good as expected. The Champ is a much better burger. Mine was a bit overcooked…but I suspect that the server didn’t note down my ‘meduim’ request. The other diner at the table got the same exact burger and it had a color mark on it. Mine didn’t.

The Champ is a great burger. The only other issue I have is their sides. The fries are of the ‘coated’ variety…and the portion size is pathetic. Sure..I’m eating a huge 10 oz. burger…but fries are cheap. The onion rings were good…but not piping hot.

Georgie’s can be ‘hit or miss’.
