It had been a bit since I had been to Miami Landmark La Camaronera in Little Havana. The first thing that caught my eye when I walked in to the left was a new food station. I looked right above it to find a “Specials” board. La Camaronera now has a Chef who is creating new dishes for the restaurant.
The Mediterranean Mahi Sandwich is a flat bread filled with Pico de Gallo, chunks of Mango and Avocado with Mahi slivers topped with Cilantro & Curry Sauces. I don’t think you could get a more vibrant looking and tasting dish.
The Camaronera Style Burrito is filled with Shrimp & Corvina Fish in a seafood sauce topped with a house tomato sauce and melted cheese. They had me at melted cheese and the fresh shrimp and fish didn’t hurt, lol.
The Fish Box, La Camaronera’s roving Food Truck also sells the new Crab Croquettes, Empanada D’ Camaron (Shrimp) and Pineapple Slaw solo or as a topping on their Original Minuta Sandwich. The Croquettes and Empanadas are slam dunks. I don’t eat slaw but if everyone else around me is any indication, it was a big hit.
The Specials are a cool addition to a restaurant that’s been around for over 40 years. It’s great to see them stick with their strengths but create some new options. I would suggest asking what’s new at the restaurant or truck whenever you visit because I witnessed the creation of a Lobster Burger. It’s not on the menu yet so who knows what else is on the horizon. One last thing, the Spicy Mayo is awesome so make sure you try it.
