Papo Llega Y Pon - Pan con Lechon Sandwich

You know what’s really good? The Pan con Lechon at Papo Llega y Pon.

Papo Llega y Pon is located in the Allapattah part of Miami. I’ve probably driven past this place a few hundred times and never even noticed it. It looks more like an outdoor laundromat than the home of probably one of the greatest Pan con Lechons on earth. Pan con Lechon is a Cuban Roast Pork Sandwich for those non locals. Why Cuban? Not only cause I said so but the flavors, preparation style and bread make it so.

When ordering you could just go the pork only route but the onions and hot sauce along with the mojo really are what make the sandwich exceptional. There are 2 sizes (small and large) and possibly some secret menu items since the lady ahead of me (who really shouldn’t have been wearing a tube top) ordered a full loaf of Cuban bread stuffed with the heavenly meat. There are a few other items available (a Pan con Bistec) and if you get there early enough, chicharrones. I haven’t been that lucky as of late unfortunately.

It’s not good it’s great. I showed up once at 11AM and ordered 10 flautas for a party, they were mega pissed and asked me to call ahead next time so that they can make a pierna or two just for me. You see they only make a few a day and close when they’re done, so I pretty much robbed a gang of people from their savory meats that one day. Anyways – moral of the story, call ahead if you don’t want a santero curse put on you (I’m not kidding btw, the botanica is only a block or two south from here).

THE BEST. No doubt about it. One of the best kept secrets in Dade County and by FAR the best Cuban pork sandwich. And its great on the wallet. Wait til the Miami Marlins shop opens up.
