Marcela is pretty simple when it comes to pizza, so pepperoni is the most I can convince her to add as a topping. She would rather go for a veggie-heavy pie, but I’m not having any of that.
I made the decision to order a pepperoni pie and a formaggi (mozzarella, parmesan, ricotta, and gorgonzola) pie. I was standing at the counter and was watching the wood oven working, and the dude making the pizza was working it.
They included an order of complimentary focaccia too. Oh yes, one thing since I have to have at least one of the pasta dishes, the fettuccine alla ruota, homemade fettuccine pasta sautéed with cream and parmesan, was chosen.
I get home, and of course, it’s not what she was expecting. I left to get some bar food and returned with Italian. She warmed up to it rather quickly once she fell in love with the focaccia with its light olive oil drizzle and herbs.
Fettuccine Alfredo or is it Fettuccine Alla Ruota?
The pizza was crusty just as she liked it, and me, well, I was in heaven. The formaggi, with its four different cheeses, is what I’m all about. Two slices in, and I remember I’ve got the fettuccine waiting for me too.
I’ve eaten plenty of fettuccine alfredo..er..I mean..fettuccine alla ruota. I asked why “alla ruota,” it’s because this dish is served out of a parmesan wheel when you dine in. Good to know!
There was no clumpy parm sauce here, just plain great creamy cheese flavor. I would order this again in a heartbeat, I’m sure there’s a heart attack joke in there somewhere.
I need to make it back to Spizzigo and try a few other dishes. I’ve got a feeling I’m gonna be rolled out of that place, much like the parmesan wheel. And I’m OK with that.
