This wasn’t the exit I was supposed to take and to make matters worse I didn’t realize I was continuing down a road with very few “U-turn” friendly spots. On my way back to the expressway I caught some cartoony font out of the corner of my eye, something about chicken. Again, I found myself having to turn the car around to take a closer look.
Krispy Krunchy Chicken is a stand alone little fast food Cajun Chicken restaurant with a drive thru. Turns out there are a few other locations in South Florida from what I gather online but with over 600 spots in 25 states they’re far from a little chain.
They’re from Lousiana as are Popeye’s which is what I’m comparing them to as they’re the gold standard in Fast Food Fried Chicken (to me at least). I ordered a good majority of their menu and found most of the sides to either be on the bland side or just nothing special. The deep fried corn was probably the worst offender as deep frying didn’t add anything to it flavor or texture wise.
There was also catfish on the menu but I decided on the 2 piece White with their signature Honey Butter Biscuit.
I found the chicken to be moist and delicious and most definitely the standout amongst all of the dishes I tried. The “Cajun flavoring” wasn’t as pronounced as I thought it would be but that was fine by me. The biscuit was a close second with its honey brushed top. Is the chicken better than Popeye’s? No, but it’s way better than KFC which I have swore off altogether. If you’re going to come here strictly for the chicken then I think you’ll be OK.
