Jake’s Wayback Burgers from Delaware is the latest chain of burger joints to make its way to South Florida and first open up in the Coral Springs area (after Elevation Burger & Smashburger). The area appears to be a hotbed of burger import activity. Jake’s has been around for a little over 20 years and has locations in about 10 other states.
After scanning the menu I settle on the Jake Cheeseburger (Double Patty) and a Chili Cheese Dog. The all beef Hot Dog is served up almost fully sliced in half on a toasted bun with a halved American Cheese slice, Chili and raw Onions (my addition). The Chili Cheese combo brought out a bit of sweetness which I should have taken advantage of with some dabs of hot sauce, but didn’t. The Hot Dog isn’t going to disappoint anyone but it’s also not going to get its own fanpage on Facebook.
Jake’s Cheeseburger was a fresh hand patty formed that was a beautiful site to see. I had mine with only American Cheese. The flavor reminded of a mix of CG Burgers and Jack’s Old Fashion. A throwback, a very old school burger patty that I could imagine eating years ago before the recent burger revolution.
The fries were not fresh cut which means I shouldn’t even spend another second on them but they do have fresh cut chips which is a great option. I ended up closing out the meal with a Black & White Shake that was very good and what Wendy’s Frosty might taste like if they used real ice cream.
