BURGERLISCIOUS: The Second Course Results

Last night was the 2nd Annual BURGERLISCIOUS Burger Competition in Coral Gables. “The Second Course”  presented by the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce featured 20 restaurants flexing their Burger muscles to become either “Best in Bun” or “People’s Choice” winners. I along with some fellow bloggers (Fatgirl Hedonist, the Food-E and South Florida Burger Overload), local dignitaries (the Mayor of Coral Gables) and some Burger fans judged. Shula’s 347 Grill ended up taking the Best in Bun aka the judge’s award with The Dome winning the People’s Choice.

It was a blind tasting so I really couldn’t tell you what I absolutely loved and which exactly were bad. I will make a suggestion to the restaurants who competed: While your Veggie, Turkey or Seafood “Burger” might be good, it won’t ever win an actual “Burger” contest. It also throws off most of the judges who won’t see it coming.

Partial List of the Burgers I tried:

About Burger Beast

I started writing the Burger Beast food blog to tell folks about those little forgotten gems in South Florida. Over the course of the last 5 years or so I've added News, Opinions, & Tips on a variety of Food related subjects. My first love will always be Burgers but Comfort Food is where it's at. At the end of the day I’m a regular dude who writes about a bunch of things I think you should know about.

Stupid question. You said it was a blind tasting but Soflbrg overload made a specific comment about Pincho factory? I’d be willing bet the charcoal #15 might have been competition? Voting seems fishy.

My wife and I had great time at the event. Loved shake shack, pao town, route 9, and Pincho

Voting was blind tasting. If requested after you turned in your votes, you could find out which burger was which. I never asked. Johnny is a stand up guy and does not operate like that.

Judging my first burger competition and already my integrity comes into question. Go figure.

How did you know “pincho factory killed it”

      • http://southfloridaburgeroverload.blogspot.com John Carrascal

Simple really, after eating there over 20 times I recognized the burger, however that wasn’t the best burger of the night. #13 was!
