You may have heard of Tucker Duke’s Lunchbox before if you’re from Pensacola where they have a restaurant and a food truck. They showed up on the Burger Beast radar a few months ago so I’ve been eagerly awaiting their opening. And guess what? They’re open.
I was by myself and a little overwhelmed as I wanted to try much more than I was able to so I had the Maple & Bacon Popcorn and the Cheese Fritters to start with.
The Cheese Fritters arrived first. They’re a mix of Mozzarella, Cheddar, Swiss & Parmesan and served with Honey Mustard. The consistency is like that of hush puppies and they taste like Potatoes Au Gratin, which is fine by me any day of the week.
The Maple & Bacon Popcorn is the perfect sporting event snack. I used a two finger technique to eat them so as not to get my fingers all covered in the maple drizzle. If you don’t mind, dig in….as a matter of fact, stick your face in the bowl while you’re at it.
And then she came out, the Burger. I took a couple of deep breaths and went for it. The first thing I noticed was the crunch the bun has. Then I realized there were Onions with their house made Ketchup on the bottom, something that I’m usually dead set against (the Ketchup not the Onions). Some of the Tucker sauce was on the top bun. The Burger was cooked perfectly to my liking and to be perfectly frank, it was fucking great. After 3 bites I took a break so I could snack on the Jalapeño Bacon Mac & Cheese.
The Jalapeño Bacon Mac & Cheese is just one of 10 sides you can choose for your Burger. The rebels at Tucker Duke’s Lunchbox have decided on no fries. There are Tots, Chips, Mashed Potatoes and even Sweet Potato Fries as a side dish but regular Fries, na uh. My Mac & Cheese was very good but not spicy all, so you spicy chickens have nothing to fear.
Don’t make the mistake I made, bring a couple of folks with you so you can try a bunch of things. The Portabella Fries and Food Truck Egg Rolls already have my name written all over them, they just don’t know it yet.
