I drive by Uncle Tom’s BBQ all the time so I was very excited today to receive an email announcing it’s re-opening in May 2014. The last time I ate there about 5 years ago it was a shadow of its former self. I’m looking forward to the NEW ownership with a NEW menu that will still feature genuine BBQ pit dishes. It’s been spruced up cosmetically too and not only that, a second Uncle Tom’s be opening in Pinecrest (124th & South Dixie Hwy) at the end of the summer. I’ll keep you posted on an official release date but in the meantime check out their Facebook Page for more information as it become available.
Uncle Tom’s Barbecue Slated to Reopen May 2014 – Press Release
Coral Gables, FL (April 30, 2014) – Locals, visitors and VIPs alike can soon look forward to the aroma of hickory smoke and the delightful tastes of the South with the long-anticipated re-opening of Uncle Tom’s Barbecue later this spring. The South Florida dining landmark is being resurrected in the same spot on Tamiami Trail; only with new owners, a brand new menu and a sprinkling of rock ‘n’ roll that’s upped the proverbial ante. With quality ingredients, great service and hospitality, the new Uncle Tom’s Barbecue is sure to quickly become a delicious diversion amidst Miami’s culinary scene once again.
Staying true to its original recipe for success from its inception in 1948, the menu will feature genuine pit barbecue dishes such as baby back ribs, spare ribs, chicken, pork, beef or BBQ brisket platters, along with several shareable appetizers to start, an array of salads, sandwiches, bakers (baked potatoes) and mouthwatering desserts. Uncle Tom’s infamous special sauce is also returning to the menu after 15 years.
“I grew up eating at Uncle Tom’s Barbecue,” states owner Ariel Rodriguez. “My family and I considered it an institution and when the opportunity arose to purchase the restaurant, we jumped at the chance to re-introduce that legacy. We’re not only bringing back the local favorites from the first menu, we’re bringing back the brand’s insanely addicting homemade sauce thanks to the original owners, the Fantis family.”
For the last two years, Rodriguez and his family have owned and operated Pasta del Giorno, a top-rated Italian restaurant in Pinecrest. With the acquisition of the Uncle Tom’s brand, a second Miami outpost is already in the works and set to open late summer 2014.
Uncle Tom’s Barbecue will be open daily for lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to midnight and is located at 3988 SW 8th Street in Coral Gables, FL, 33134. For more information, please call 305.445.0844 or visit www.utbbq.com and stay updated with Uncle Tom’s Barbecue on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
