FOAR Food Truck, Serving Up Breakfast

FOAR Food Truck

Boy was I eggstatic to find out about the FOAR (Freedom on a Roll) Food Truck. If you’re into breakfast with some twist and turns here and there then these guys might be up your alley. Their menu has a few international dishes which tie in nicely with the quote on their truck, “Trying New Food Is The Quickest Way To Travel“.  I caught up with them at the Food Trucks at Arts Park event that happens every Monday night in downtown Hollywood, Florida.

The Menu

While I’m standing there looking over the menu with my wife Marcela, guess who shows up? The FGH, she wants in on the FOAR action. As much as I’d like to say we agree to order, so and so it wouldn’t be true. I convince them that we need the Nasi-Lemak, GBA Sandwich, Southern Cheese Grits and one of the savory Paco (Pancake Taco). While they’re discussing nail polish & hair bows or whatever you women of today talk about I get busy placing the order.

The fella cooking inside asks us if we want it to be spicy and our answer is YES. The first thing out of the window is the Nasi-Lemak (Coconut Rice, Soft Cooked Egg, Grilled Chicken w/Sriracha). I’m not a Grilled Chicken & Egg the in same dish kinda guy but I dug this. Grabbing a spoonful of Rice with Chicken & Egg and Sriracha really is a great combo. Just a warning, consider the time of day it is when eating this dish. We were standing outside at 5:30PM, not the ideal conditions to be having something spicy. The ladies seemed ok with it, me? Not so much.

The GBA (Good Bless America) with its 2 Eggs, Cheese, Skirt Steak, Ham & Bacon on Kaiser Roll was the big winner for me. They’re a breakfast truck and they need to nail sandwiches like this and they did, as perfect as a Breakfast Sandwich can be.

I’m weary of trying Grits anymore. It seems that everyone is afraid to season them leaving a bland lifeless dish. Am I the only encountering Grits like this everywhere?

The Cheese Grits were a nice surprise too, there was this thing called flavor. These Grits are topped with real Bacon crumbles, ours had extra due to a kitchen mistake which held up our food for a little bit. We weren’t going to complain about extra Bacon, who would?

And the last contestant up was……..PACO, yes a Pancake Taco. You can get your Pancake Traditional, Oatmeal or Flour-less for a dollar extra. There are 2 savory PACOs and 3 Sweet PACOs on the regular plus whatever might have been on the specials board. Our PACO was filled with a Fried Egg, American Cheese, Chorizo & topped with a Tomato Relish. It is definitely different. Pancakes are low on the breakfast appeal scale for me so the concept doesn’t work for me but the combination of ingredients did. I would have inhaled this same combination on one of their Kaiser Rolls. Marcela and FGH went to town on the PACO then mud wrestled each other for the last few bites, just kidding.

Dan Bing (a Crepe w/Chives, Egg & Sweet Chili Sauce) , the NY Sausage & Pepper Sandwich and one of the sweet PACOs, probably the Strawberry will be next on my FOAR agenda. This time there will be no sharing.
