When we left Miami for a road trip through Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Alabama & Florida I did not have Hometown HotDogs on our list of stops. I had a horrible cough the entire trip and our last day in Columbus, Ohio I decided I’d stay in and the hope was to recoup a little bit for the last leg of drive.
It turned out that just 9 minutes from where we were staying was a place called Hometown HotDogs. As the guys were planning what they were gonna do for the day I suggested they have Breakfast at HH and then drop me off afterwards.
We arrived around 10:30AM and took a seat at a 4 top. Our waitress Kim, who turns out to be the owner convinces them to give up their scrambled egg dreams and go Dogs and Burgers. We’re now all on the same page.
If you haven’t noticed by reading previous wiener restaurants I’ve visited I always order Chili Cheese Dogs right out of the gate. It takes a lot to convince me otherwise. Kim made a valiant effort at trying to make me a Slaw convert and when I wouldn’t budge she brought me a West Virginia Dog (before I received any of my food) anyway.
All I’ve got to say is SOLD! Wowsers!
And then my Chili Cheese Dogs and Double Cheeseburger arrive with a pretty big portion of fresh cut Fries as I’m half way down the West Virginia Dog. I stop and formulate a plan of attack, unfortunately all plans lead to trying to eat everything.
I chomp down on the Chili Cheese Dog and yes it’s great but I can’t get that West Virginia Dog out of my mind.
Change of plans, I bite into the Double Cheeseburger. It’s official, Hometown HotDogs is a hidden gem.
What an amazing Burger. I can’t believe I’ve been staying 9 minutes from Hometown HotDogs (in Baltimore, Ohio) for 5 days and now is when we eat here. There is absolutely no way I’m leaving even a crumb of that Double Cheeseburger.
In between bites of the Double Chee I’m tossing down Fries dipped in the red sauce.
When it’s all said and done there are some Fries scattered about and I’m beyond stuffed. Everyone is ready for a nap.
But of course it doesn’t end there since there was a Salted Caramel Chocolate Cake, house-made of course. Three bites in and I tap out. You got me Hometown HotDogs.
I love you and I’ll be back.
P.S.: We went straight back to the house we were staying at and no one went out that day.
