Root Beer Drive-In in Liberty City, Florida

In 1956, when Root Beer Drive-In (11101 NW 27th Avenue, North Miami) opened up, it was an A&W Drive-In, one of many that were all over the United States. I can’t confirm, but I believe it was the early ’80s when the license for A&W expired. One thing has not changed since then, and that’s the housemade root beer. Unfortunately, it is no longer a drive-in, and while there is seating, it’s open-air with a roof.

I was drinking my amazing vanilla-y fresh root beer while I wait for my food to be made fresh. My biggest fear with the food was that I was gonna find a frozen patty that they were gonna pass off as a burger and canned chili that they were gonna say was homemade. I was wrong.

Food regrets, we all have them

My only regret was that I didn’t do a chili dog too, but those chili cheese fries were…WOW!! Just take a look at that chili; it might be the best in town (sorry, Mom!).

I have no reason as to why I asked for cheese and mayo on my burger. I removed that combo from my burger repertoire about ten years ago. My only beef (yes, I did sneak in that bad joke) was that the burger comes cut in half, which I’m gonna assume you can ask them not to do. It’s a solid burger, and the thoughts of a chili burger that are now dancing in my head may take it to the next level.

Next time there will definitely be a patty melt, a chili dog, and yes, oh yes….a root beer float in my future!!! What is your future lookin’ like?

UPDATE: Unfortunately the Root Beer Drive-In closed in 2018.

After eating at the Root Beer Drive-in my friend Z and I headed to the Sunnyside Cafe for sliders.
