3rd Annual Sunshine State Steak Cook-Off in Ave Maria, Florida

Saturday afternoon (January 26th)  I was in Ave Maria, Florida judging the 3rd Annual Sunshine Steak Cook-Off in Ave Maria, Florida. No gas grills were allowed so these 16 oz Rib eyes were either smoked or grilled over charcoal (or both). The winner of the competition would not only win $1000 and the trophy but move onto the World Food Championships in Las Vegas later this year, so this was serious business.

I made sure to snap pictures of all 21 participating steaks so you could see how different they were. There were 7 judges and each judge was given a Steak sliver to judge:

The Judges’ Steaks:

You could of course also attend the event as there were plenty of family entertainment going on too but the $18 meal was the main attraction. It included a 16oz. Boneless Ribeye Steak (from the vendor of your choice), Baked Potato, Roll, Salad and Drink. Over 3000 steaks were cooked and all for a good cause (Scholarship Fund for the children from Immokalee, FL).

Make sure to check out the Sunshine State Steak Cook-Off Website in case you’ve got what it takes to compete next year.
