After almost a year of a self imposed hiatus Sweetness Bake Shop‘s Sugar Rush makes its long awaited return at the 2013 Burgie Awards on February 2nd in Ft. Lauderdale. Save some room for dessert because I see Deep Fried Cupcakes and Cake Shakes in your future!

I felt right at home when in waltzed (yes I said waltzed) into Azucar Ice Cream Company in Little Havana. The decor, in particular the “Guayabera” wrapped seats with the plastic that everyone’s Cuban grandmother had on their furniture is perfect.

Sweetness Bake Shop & Cafe who also run the Sugar Rush Truck have added doughnuts to its arsenal of sweet creations. The doughnuts will also be available on the truck occasionally as they were this past Friday at Tamiami Park. It seems as if they are testing out different flavors daily since there was a Lucky Charms doughnut when I was there that I hadn’t seen on their Facebook page.
Wonderin’ why I can’t wait for September 28th? Baconery.Com goes live! An old friend of mine, Wesley Klein decided that he loved breakfast and dessert so much that he needed to marry the two together. Baconery combines Bacon with Baked Goods, wow pretty clever huh? I know, that’s why he’s my friend.

Clarabelle’s Cupcakes is a small neighborhood bakery that specializes in cupcakes and some other homemade sweets. The truck will strictly sell cupcakes and drinks but if a customer sees an item and requests it that day that the truck is gonna be out they’ll be happy to make it and have it available. They have a gigantic assortment of cupcakes available so I’d definitely make some requests for your favorite.

Everything they make is supervised kosher parve (Pas Yisroel) and 100% dairy-free (although most of their sweets do contain eggs). When is the truck debuting? This Sunday at Flipper’s Truck Stop!

There used to be a few Krispy Kreme Doughnut shops within a few miles of my home but they unfortunately closed up a few years back. If you wanna go back before that, Mr. Donut and Velvet Creme also used to be within driving distance to me (that’s right, some old school doughnut mentions). I’m a fan of the Krispy Kreme shop experience because I can go in and buy a couple of doughnuts and be done with it. If I go to the supermarket and buy any of the packages, a minimum of 4 to 6 doughnuts will always end up hard as a rock. And no coffee or cafe con leche dipping can save them.

I knew this new location had opened up in Palmetto Bay but I totally forget about it until I was driving down US1. Everyone jocks on the “Hot Now” sign which you do find at this location. I don’t see some extensive contraption baking the doughnuts so I’m gonna go ahead and assume they found some way to make them minus all of that production. I’m also not the doughnut police so I’m not about to question them about it. I ordered 2 doughnuts, one regular and chocolate.

The original just melted in my mouth, just as expected. Unfortunately the chocolate while not old, had the consistency of what you’d find in the supermarket.

The moral of this story? Stick to the original and get two while you’re at it.
