Prime 112 – South Beach, Florida

My buddy (an actual friend not the 1980′s toy) called me up and tells me that I must eat at Prime One Twelve. What do I know about Prime One Twelve? It seems as if every celebrity that visits Miami ends up there. In other words, it’s a place that does not normally interest me. After looking over the menu I have a change of heart, comfort food heaven. The prices of course are higher than my usual hot spots. I figured let’s do this, if it’s worth it I’m always willing to pay.
We head out for lunch and decide to make the hard decisions, we order (our table is pictured above): Tomato Basil Soup w/ Mini Fontina Grilled Cheese, Five Cheese Truffle ‘MAC’, KOBE Beef Hot Dog, 1 lb. KOBE Cheeseburger, Sea Salt Baked Potato w/ Vermont Butter, Applewood Smoked Bacon Bits and Chive Sour Cream , Potato Pancakes and Crispy White Truffle French Fries.
Now you must be thinking, there’s no way they ate all that food and you would be correct. Everything was delicious, except for the potato pancakes which I found to be way too crispy and not potato-ey enough. And one last thing, it would be great if they removed the name KOBE from the burger and dog because we all know it’s not authentic KOBE from Japan. For your drooling pleasure, please check out all the pics below especially the one with the bacon chunks on top of the baked potato.

Brimstone – Pembroke Pines, Florida
Posted by: | CommentsOn my way to Sunrise, I’ve passed Brimstone many a time and wondered what exactly it was. It certainly looks like a chain restaurant (which it’s not) from I-75. My friend Ed and I decided to go in and see what this place is all about, prior to the visit I had looked up Brimstone online and confirmed that they indeed did have a hamburger as well as some mini burgers. I arrive first and had not realized that this is definitely much more upscale than I thought. It has an amazing wood burning smell (not the kind where a forest is burning down before someone makes a wisecrack). I’m seated far away from everyone, just kidding no one else is here. By the time Ed arrives, I had ordered a beer and a couple of appetizers.
I ordered the BBQ Chicken Flatbread (thin whole wheat crust) and the Kobe Mini Cheeseburgers.
I felt the flat bread was ok as did Ed. Now, the Kobe Mini Cheeseburgers were outstanding as were the seasoned dinner fries that came with them. Cooked to medium, these little guys were juicy, and not be anti climatic they were also the best thing we had here. I ordered the Brimstone Prime Burger (with Bacon and Cheese) and Ed had the Tenderloin Steak Sandwich (comes with mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, bacon & fried onions). The prime burger was nothing I haven’t had before, and considering it was wood grilled, it did not carry over in the taste of the burger, great fries though (deserved a second mention). I also ordered the Salt Crusted Baked Potato, which looks a lot better than it was.
Ed’s steakwich was a bigger letdown because considering the ingredients, you should have had an explosion of flavor when you bit into it, which was not the case. You are better off getting a Pan Con Bistec at Morro Castle. The best thing on his plate was the horseradish sauce served with it, which was really good for dipping the fries. And if you ever watched The State, it may have been good to dip something else in it.
