The Top 10 New Burgers I Had in 2011

I thought about the list for the Top 10 New Burgers I had in 2011 long and hard. I ate so many new burgers and plenty that I never even mentioned on BurgerBeast.Com or Facebook or even Twitter. While most of the burgers below are always available, some like The Frita from Sakaya Kitchen were only available at the National Hamburger Month Brunch. This could be our chance to get most of these on the permanent menus and that would definitely be a great thing.

In no particular order (well, actually alphabetical), here is my Top 10 (2 of which I don’t have pictures for unfortunately):

Top 10 New Burgers 2011:
BITE Gastrotruck’s The Burger
Bourbon Steak‘s All-Beef Burger
Gilbert’s 17th Street Grill‘s Havarti Burger
Jefe’s Original Fish Taco & Burgers Truck: Patty Melt
Jr’s Gourmet Burger‘s Sliders
The Local Craft Food & Drink‘s “Baconator”
Sakaya Kitchen‘s Frita
Smashburger‘s Double Cheeseburger
Sparky’s Roadside Barbecue: 1/2 Pound Angus CheeseBurger
Sustain‘s Burger topped with Benton Ham

The Burger Beast Top 5 Croqueta List

A few weeks back the New Times posted a list of the Top 5 Croquetas in Miami which I vehemently disagreed with. I love to read Best Of lists, I think everyone seems to be drawn to them. While I do love to read them, I also love to dispute the “Winners”. In the case of the people vs. Citysearch, Citysearch is guilty of a bad best of list. Don’t believe me? See for yourself. The Best Pizza and Burger in Ft. Lauderdale are from New River Pizza? And there’s no “Best Burger” Category in Miami.

And somehow Bubba Gump Shrimp is the Best Seafood in Miami. No that’s not all, wait for it……..they’re also Best Group Dining, Best Miami American Food, Best Miami Family Friendly Restaurant,  2nd Best Miami Outdoor Dining,  2nd Best Miami Restaurant, 4th Best Miami Barbecue, 4th Best Miami Steak, 5th Best Best Miami Restaurants Open Late, 6th Best Wine List in Miami, 7th Best Miami Lunch Spot, and 7th Best Miami Business Lunch and Dinner. Well, at least we know it wasn’t rigged.

Best Pizza

Sutter Home’s Build A Better Burger 20th Anniversary Winners

Sutter Home celebrated the 20th Anniversary of their Build a Better Burger event by having it take place in Miami Beach. One of the coolest things (other than the actual burgers) going on was the live Tweeting and posting of footage on Facebook as it happened. You could also follow everything that was going on through their blog. Most importantly, the winner of the Best Alternative Burger got $15,000 while the winner of the Best Beef Burger took home $100,000. While the weather was bad, it didn’t stop the show from going on.  As the contestants presented their burgers to the panel of celebrity judges, they were interrogated I mean quizzed about them. The banter between them was pretty entertaining. Meanwhile, the spectators of the event got to vote for the People’s Choice award for Best Beef and Best Alternative Burger.

Cranberry Pork Burger – People’s Choice Best Alternative Burger
Lucky Tiki Slider – Best Alternative Burger
Minted Lamb Burger
Ono Ohana Burger
Americana Smoke Shack Burger
Bengali Blaze Burger
Strawberry BBQ Bacon Burger – Best Beef Burger
Sweet Chili Citrus Changsha Sliders – People’s Choice Best Beef Burger

So who won? Jaeger Stoltz won the $100,000 prize with his Strawberry BBQ Bacon Burger. Jeanette Nelson was the People’s Choice Winner (Beef) for her Sweet Chili Citrus Changsha Sliders with Sriracha Grapefruit Mayo and Ponzu Jicama Slaw. The Best Alternative Burger title (and 15 grand) went to Regina Haase with her Lucky Tiki Sliders. The People’s Choice Winner for Alternative Burger was Mark Pyne with his Cranberry Ultimate Pork Burgers with Garlic Cherry Mayonnaise, Smoked Ham, Bacon, and Gruyere Cheese. You can check out all the recipes at their page Build a Better Burger.
