Believe it or Not. Burger King Delivery is Coming!

fast payday loans Payday Loans for every one

In January Burger King announced that they had begun testing delivery service in Maryland & Virginia. If you check out the “Participating Restaurants” nothing appears to have changed. I was writing a post a couple of weeks ago about the Burger King Delivery and abandoned it since there was really nothing new to report.

Then, last night I was at my parent’s house and they asked me if I was aware that Burger King delivers. They showed me the Burger King mailer which I scanned below.

Burger King adds Bacon Sundae and 8 other items to its New Summertime Menu

Burger King has come up with a bunch of new Summertime Menu items but none has received as much press as the Bacon Sundae. The Bacon Sundae is soft-serve Vanilla Ice Cream topped with Chocolate Fudge, Caramel, Bacon Crumbles and a Sword in the Stone type deal with a piece of Bacon for effect.

The other 8 items available through September 3rd are The Memphis Pulled Pork BBQ Sandwich, Carolina BBQ Whopper or Chicken Sandwich, Texas BBQ Whopper or Chicken Sandwich, Sweet Potato Fries, Frozen Lemonade and Frozen Strawberry Lemonade.

Burger King’s BK Stacker $1, $2 and $3 Promotion

Burger King is running a new BK Stacker promotion which is pretty self explanatory. You get the BK Single Stacker for $1, BK Double Stacker for $2 and you can pretty much guess that the BK Triple Stacker is the $3 deal. No word on how long this is going on for so eat up!

Burger King – San Miguel – Cozumel, Mexico

While walking around the tourist trap area of Cozumel, I came across this outdoor Burger King counter. Once I took a look at the menu and saw the “Cheesy Whopper”, I knew there was no way I was leaving empty handed. My father was with me and mentioned that he wanted Jalapeño Poppers. Poppers….wait, what else is there to try? And so began my downward spiral into a massive order.

The Wings I couldn’t say no to

On the little ad the”Alitas” aka Wings look roasted but they’re actually fried with Hot Sauce drizzled on top. They were your run of the mill Wings with a not so special Hot Sauce on them. The Wings are also available topped with BBQ Sauce but some Blue Cheese might have been a nice gesture.

Burger King’s Alitas

The Jalapeño Poppers came 4 to an order. Burger King in the U.S. carried these in late 2000 and I remember ordering them back then. They’re not too shabby, just like what you’d expect them to taste.

Next up was the Papas Fundidas which were BK Fries topped with Cheese Sauce, Bacon Bits and Jalapeños. I didn’t like it. I couldn’t place the taste of the Cheese but what was worse were the Bacon Bits. They were just like, if not Bac-O’s which I think are pretty gross.

Papas Fundidas

The Cheesy Whopper is a Whopper topped with a breaded Cheese Patty. I ordered a single Whopper but I wonder if I had order the double would they have placed the Cheese in-between them. I asked for no Lettuce or Tomato thinking it would come plain but it came with Mayo and Ketchup. The Whopper didn’t have that much of that BK grill taste while it still retained somehow it’s Burger King taste. The Cheese reminded me of the Cheesy Tots they were selling until recently. It’s an interesting concept and I’m surprised it hasn’t made its way to the U.S. yet.

And just when you think I couldn’t have possibly ordered anything else, I did. The Burger King deep fried Apple Pie, something that has not been on their menu in the US of A since the 1980′s. It looks just like the McDonald’s version which can still be found if you really look but the taste is different. Burger King’s Apple Pie’s flavor is closer to that of a Funnel Cake and less of an actual Apple Pie.

It was cool to try some fast food in Cozumel but I regret driving by a McDonald’s earlier in the day and not stopping, who knows what I could have found?

Hamburlooca – Managua, Nicaragua

Hamburlooca Store Front

When my wife’s relative told me about Hamburlooca I was dying to know more. Hamburlooca is a Burger chain based out of Nicaragua. Last year, this same relative brought me the Whopper from Nicaragua. I enjoyed comparing to the U.S. Whopper (the U.S. Whopper was significantly larger) to it . After receiving the “guess what I got you from Nicaragua” call, I was happy to hear that it was indeed a Hamburlooca burger. You can assume that she knows me well enough to bring me the Super 1/4 Libra (translation: Super Quarter Pounder).

She also brought me some flyers from Hamburlooca. Look them over, some of those Burger pics look suspiciously like McDonald’s & Burger King Sandwiches. One U.S. dollar is equal to about 21 or 22 Cordobas in Nicaragua, in case you’d like to figure the approximate cost of the food over there.

I needed a burger for scale so I figured I’d get a Whopper (from the U.S.) to give you an idea of how big this Hamburlooca really is. The bun on this thing was enormous. It was cut similar to the Big Boy or Big Mac burgers with a middle bun. It was a very fluffy bread.

Once I took the top bun off I knew I was in for trouble. I could not tell what method was used to cook this and it looked like a Sausage Patty. The Super 1/4 Libra are 4 thin patties with only Cheese on the top burger. The holy trinity of fast food sauces (Ketchup, Mustard & Mayo) were on the top Burger as well as the one under the middle bun. Those sauces could not save this Burger.

It was horrid and one thing is for sure, that wasn’t meat (at least what I consider meat). It had a strong soy and vegetable taste. I had at least 4 bites before I gave up. It was just not enjoyable. My brother in law, who is Nicaraguan and eats Iguanas (a delicacy in Nicaragua) thought it was revolting, that should tell you everything. He actually thought I was putting him on when I said where it was from.

There was about a 4 hour time span from when the Burger was purchased to when it reached my grubby little hands (I’m sure some of you were wondering). There are also Hot Dogs on the menu but after having this Burger, I don’t think a souvenir Hot Dog from Hamburlooca is in the cards for her next trip. Now a Big Mac, that’s a different story.
