B&B Junction In Winter Park, Florida

When I was in Orlando a few weeks back and sitting in my car with my newest prize possessions from Park Ave Cds I flipped through Orlando Weekly. I came across a write up about B&B Junction that intrigued me. B&B Junction is a farm to table Burger Joint that is committed to quality ingredients. I showed up in the afternoon and there were a few folks ahead of me which gave me time to survey the menu. The Buttermilk Battered Chicken Tenders, the Creamy Blue + Pecan-Smoked Bacon Hand Cut Fries and a 6 oz. Burger with Cheddar Cheese and Pecan-Smoked Bacon made up my order.

Chicken Strips/Tenders are one of those things I see on a menu and am instantly drawn to ordering. In this case, the word Buttermilk had me sold from the minute I read it. The Tenders were nice and crispy like a great piece of Fried Chicken and were served with a side of  Bourbon Barbecue Sauce for dipping. The Bourbon Barbecue was made better just because it wasn’t that usual dense liquid most BBQ sauces are like. It was great for wringing every last drop out of the little container it was served in but bad for my shirt which suffered some color integrity.

The Hand Cut Fries were the first thing I polished off. They were right on point and had the right amount of Blue Cheese to keep it great without becoming repugnant. The pieces of Pecan-Bacon had sunk to the bottom but it ended up making a nice surprise when I got to the last tier of fries.

The Burger can be cooked to order Pink or No Pink. I asked for Pink but got No Pink which I was fine with since it was still juicy. If you take a good look at the picture you will see that it is a beautiful specimen of a Burger that unfortunately did not deliver on its potential. It lacked something…what exactly? I did not know but I swore I would return, this must have been a mishap of sorts.

I forgot to mention how much I loved the ice at B&B Junction.

The return….

Two weeks later I found myself in Orlando again and decided that I needed to revisit B&B Junction. Very much like last time I had the Buttermilk Battered Chicken Tenders first. Just as I was about to dig into them I noticed something. They appeared to be in a spelling formation. It was a LOST-like conspiracy on my part to try and figure it out. I lasted all of about 15 to 20 seconds before I decided it was more important that I eat the Tenders before they get cold. Take a good look, let me know if you can decode the chicken. And for the record, they were still still very good.

There Is A Meaning In Here Somewhere

The Fries with Blue Cheese were great last time so I thought maybe I should change it up by getting the Chili con Papas. Chili (Turkey, White Beans), Jalapeño Relish and Cheddar Cheese topped the Fries. I’m not a White Bean fanatic but within the confines of a Turkey Chili they work well.  I really dug the Jalapeño Relish but the Chili overwhelmed the Fries. It didn’t helped I ordered “For The Table” instead of “For One” like I did with the Creamy Blue+Pecan-Smoked Bacon Fries. Yes I know, I’m well aware it was excessive.

This time around I ordered the Bison Burger cooked Pink with Pecan-Smoked Bacon, Aged Cheddar and Caramelized Onion Jam. And it was…….

#2 Burger as a Bison

….so good, so very good to be quite honest. It was Pink, it was juicy and it was mucho excellente. I know this is the Burger I’m having next time or I’ll try adding the Ghost Chili Cheese or the Roasted Poblano-Bacon Jam or maybe even the Sriracha Aioli. It seems like the possibilities are endless.

Boardwalk Fresh Burgers & Fries in Boca Raton, Florida

The first time I set eyes on Boardwalk Fresh Burgers & Fries was back in the mid 80′s when they could be found in the Food Court area of a local mall. All I can remember was that fresh cut Fries were the only thing available and I’d load up on ketchup to dip them. I hadn’t thought of them in years until I read about their new concept which brought burgers in the mix.

Boardwalk Fresh Burgers & Fries is mostly compared to Five Guys since their burger is similar in look and taste to them. The menu on the other hand is much larger and includes a Veggie Burger and a few Chicken options. It’s not the best Chili Cheese Dog I’ve had but it gets the job done,

It was pretty ridiculous the amount of fries that come with the “Large” order. And Yes, the fries tasted just as good as I remember them but Large is definitely a sharing size.

Chicken Kitchen – West Palm Beach Turnpike Plaza

I’ve been to Chicken Kitchen 1001 times so when I walked in the West Palm Beach Turnpike Plaza I expected to order my usual Original Chop Chop and drown it with their Mustard Curry. That didn’t happen, what did happen was I noticed an item on their menu I’ve never seen at any of the Miami locations, chicken strips.

Chicken Strips

Mustard Curry aka Liquid Gold

Freakin’ chicken strips! Of course I placed the large order which came with those fries with that weird texture on the outside. It took a little longer than getting a Chop Chop since they hand bread each strip and drop them into the fryer right there. They came with no sauce so I asked for some mustard curry. I’d like to mention that I have the recipe for their mustard curry because a relative of mine used to work there when it was made from scratch (you email me and ask for it if you’d like). The strips had some spanish style seasoning on them and really hit the spot. I prefer eating the Original Chop Chop but a chicken strip every once in a while never hurt anyone.

O’ Sheehan’s on the Norwegian NCL EPIC Cruise Ship

O'Sheehan's Sign

O’Sheehan’s is located on the Norwegian Cruise Ship, the EPIC. It’s open 24 hours and has a neighborhood tavern feel to it. All the food served here falls in the comfort food category aka my favorite zone. There is no cost for eating here. While you might associate that it’s free with the likelihood that it’s horrible, you’d be wrong. I ate here multiple times and the food was pretty good. Let’s run down the different dishes I had over the 7 or so times I ate here. The Hot Wings were not the best or biggest Wings I’ve had but they did the job nicely. What the Wings lacked, the Sauce on them made up for . The Sauce was just plain awesome but not much heat though. I’m thinking some Blue Cheese was worked into it. I ended up ordering a side of the Hot Sauce to dip my Fries in a a few visits later.

The Chicken Tenders and Mozzarella Sticks were of the packaged warehouse chain variety. Now, that doesn’t make them horrible, just passable. Hey, at least the Honey Mustard was pretty tasty.

The Burger was a better than average affair. The Bacon was good and the Shoestring Fries were ok. Actually, order the Chips instead of the Fries because they’re the thicker cut Fries and not Chips at all.

The Heavenly Chicken Sandwich

The Heavenly Chicken Sandwich

My favorite dish at O’Sheehan’s turned out to be their Chicken Sandwich. The Sandwich was a Grilled Chicken Breast on a toasted Buttery Bun and topped with a slightly Spicy Mayo-esque Sauce that was great. After having had the Burger the 1st two times, and having the Chicken the 3rd time, I became a Chicken convert. I would highly suggest this as your go to sandwich on the EPIC.

You know what’s really good? Boneless Buffalo Chicken Wings at Nexxt Cafe

Something about going to Nexxt Cafe drives me crazy. All the portions are gigantic which is good but can work against you when you want to eat appetizers before your meal. The boneless buffalo chicken wings are moist and delicious. The sauce is not too hot. The homemade blue cheese is awesome too. It’s hard to not eat them all but if you don’t, you’ll regret it later.

EVOS: Feel Great Fast Food In Pinecrest, Florida

I will preface everything that you’re about to read with, I think everything tastes better fried. Thank you and you may now continue your reading adventure:

EVOS Feel Great Fast Food is part of a chain that’s created a healthier form of fast food. All the food items you would normally expect to be fried are air baked in an oven which cuts down significantly on the calories and fat. Their 1/3 lb. burgers are of naturally raised beef which are also hormone & antibiotic free. So are the hot dogs by the way (they’re not 1/3 lb. though). I also heard great things about their chicken strips so let’s order some of those too along with some “Airfries”. A single patty is not enough for me so I ordered a double with cheese.

Grilled Beef Hot Dog

The burger’s flavor reminded me of a salisbury steak and would probably go better with condiments on it instead of plain how I had it. The hot dog tasted great and I could probably eat it all day along with the chicken strips. In a chicken strip line up stacked up against other fast food chain chicken strips you would not be able to tell that these were not fried.

Ketchup: Mesquite Magic, Garlic Gravity, Cayenne Firewalker & Original

The fries were a little on the bland side for me but luckily there’s 4 different ketchups to dip them into. The Mesquite Magic is the way to go. Would I eat at EVOS again? I can appreciate what they’re trying to do. This place is not my deal, but who knows, it might be yours.

Cheeburger Cheeburger – Naples, Florida

Cheeburger Cheeburger Door

There was no doubt when I convinced everyone to eat at Cheeburger Cheeburger that my intentions were anything other than eating their Famous Pounder. We had a lot of fun at Cheeburger Cheeburger. How could we not? My Parents, my wife Marcela, my cousin Fred and my friend Yislin were all along for the ride this time.

I really think we drove the waitress crazy with the amount of food that was ordered. They weren’t really prepared for it but handled it well. When we walked in there was no one here. Once seated, it sounded like a dozen people talking not 6 (I guess that’s the Miami way). We had a couple of orders of their Fries/Onion rings to start with. The Fries and O-rings are made daily and fried in Peanut Oil (a double awesome). Nothing is better with Fries and Onion Rings than sauces (well at least I think so). All 5 sauces, order up: Cheese, Horseradish, Jalapeno,Sweet Popper and Garden Vegetable. I love the fries and onion rings here and with the added feature of sauces it’s a win.

Yislin, because she’s a pain gets the Grilled Chicken Melt (Chicken version of a Patty Melt). My mother for some reason orders Chicken Strips while my father and Marcela order The Semi-Serious (1/3 pound). Fred and I of course go for the Famous Pounder. How else are we going to get our picture on the wall?

I tried my friend’s Chicken Melt and thought it was good (but I’ll stick to their burgers). My Mom’s Chicken Strips were of the bagged variety (I still don’t know why she ordered this). Our burgers were great. Oh, did I forget to mention we had bacon on it also? The one thing about Cheeburger Cheeburger that I’ve found is that quite a few people who swear by this place while I also encounter those who tell me they would never go back. I like Cheeburger Cheeburger and used to eat at it regularly when there was a location in Kendall. So how did we do with the pounder? Fred is an eating machine but a slow eating machine. I eat much quicker than he does. Are we on the wall?
