Mao Colombian Fast Food In Westchester, Florida

fast payday loans Payday Loans for every one

Mao is the first of the Colombian fast food places popping up all over Miami that I tried. I had a few friends tell me to try this place out and I kinda took my time to go there. I don’t know why but when I did I was surprised at how different it was. The burger aka Super Hamburguesa  is a burger with melted Mozzarella Cheese, Potato Sticks , Ham , Pineapple sauce, and an Egg. You can add Bacon if you’d like and about 5 different sauces that vary from a Guacamole like sauce to a Curry to a Pink sauce (which I think is a ketchup-mayo combination).

The flavors can be a little overwhelming to the taste buds. I didn’t fully grasp everything the first time I ate here and I learned to pick and choose the toppings that made the best combination for me. I like the Curry and the Pink sauce but in all honesty the patty is the least flavorful part of the sandwich. It is actually pretty horrible and a frozen patty.

Super Perro

The Super Perro is a jumbo Hot Dog with all the toppings of the burger minus the Egg and Ham plus some Parmesan cheese topping. It might the safest bet for the first time you eat here. If you do end up at Mao order the Maicito which is a can of Corn with melted Mozzarella Cheese and Sauces plus optional Chicken and Bacon toppings. That dish will make you glad you made the trip.

La Moon in Coral Gables, Florida

I had been wanting to head to Downtown Miami to check La Moon out so imagine my surprise when I found out they had just opened a location in Coral Gables. How did this get past me? The sign outside is still not up so I did have to drive by a couple of time before I located it. I was impressed with the layout inside.

Mask

It was decorated with Colombian artifacts with tags explaining their age etc..pretty cool. They have a pretty varied menu but I came here to order from the “Fast Food/Comida Rapida” portion of it. I ordered the Crazymoon Burger (Ham, Egg, Bacon, Mozzarella, Potato Sticks, Pink sauce, Pineapple sauce & Lettuce) , the Supermoon Perro (a Hot Dog with Sausage, Bacon, Potato Sticks, Quail Egg, Pink sauce and Pineapple sauce) and a Mazorca Desgranada (Corn kernels with Lettuce, Pink sauce and Mozzarella cheese).

Supermoon Perro

Mazorca

Mazorca Desgranada is just like the Maicito found at all the Colombian fast food restaurants, a definite must order. The Supermoon Perro has a nice twist with a quail egg on top. It was a great touch. The Crazymoon Burger was just exploding with flavor. Best of all, the burger patty itself was fresh and not frozen like most of the Colombian fast food joints. It had a great taste which is good news because I’m dying to try their Arepa Burger. Now that’s a burger that sounds crazy.

The Coral Gables location profiled here is now Closed.

Los Mega Perros in Sweetwater, Florida

Los Mega Perros is hidden behind a Denny’s and a Chase Bank in a strip mall. I’ve had my eyes on this place for a little while. The one time I attempted to go during the day I could not find parking so I gave up. I decided it would be best to make my next attempt at night time which worked out well.

I ordered a Maicito with Cheese (can of Corn topped with melted Mozzarella Cheese, crushed Potato Chips and their Pink and Pineapple sauces), Papitas Francesas (French Fries), Mega Perro and the Mega Burger. The Maicito served at  this place is superior to any other I’ve had. It has the right mix of Corn to Toppings. The fries, well they’re just your run of the mill thing. The Mega Perro is one the best dogs I’ve tasted in all the Colombian fast food places I’ve been to. I suspect that this dog is a Sabrett (it comes with melted Mozzarella Cheese, Pink sauce, Pineapple sauce and crushed Potato Chips).

Burger

The Mega Burger has some nice seasoning on it. The problem is all the toppings (melted Mozzarella Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Pink sauce, Pineapple sauce, slice of Ham and crushed Potato Chips) almost make you forget there’s a burger under there. At least the sauces aren’t overwhelming everything and the crushed Potato Chips are of course a nice touch. If you get a chance, swing by and check this place out but I definitely suggest you go at night.

Los Perros in Kendall, Florida

Before this Colombian Fast Food revolution started in Miami, someone had told me about Los Perros and their hot dogs aka the Superperro (Hot dog with Mozzarella Cheese, Ketchup, Mustard, Sour Cream, Pink Sauce, Crushed Potato Chips and their special Pineapple Sauce). Wow, is really all I can say about the Superperro, pretty tasty stuff. They do have a few other dogs you may want to try out, including a Colombian Sausage.

As for their hamburgers, I ordered the Hamburguesa de Carne (8 oz. patty with Mozzarella Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Ketchup, Pink Sauce, Sour Cream, Crushed Potato Chips and their special Pineapple Sauce). Also on the menu is a Hamburguesa de Pollo (same as their Hamburguesa de Carne except with a Chicken Breast) and the Porkys (everything the Hamburguesa de Carne has plus Bacon and Ham). The patty believe it or not has a nice flavor and the toppings complement it well. Sometimes the sauces at the Colombian Fast Food joints can be overwhelming. My wife ate their Meat Empanada and thought it was great. I definitely want to come back and try the Porkys and their Maicito de Queso (sweet Corn with Mozzarella Cheese, Crushed Potato Chips, Pink Sauce and their special Pineapple Sauce). Los Perros is open pretty late so if you’re jonesing for a midnight snack this is definitely the place.
