Dune Oceanfront Burger Lounge at the Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne – Key Biscayne, Florida

I gotta say I was impressed with the Ritz-Carlton in Key Biscayne. I was invited to try out their Dune Oceanfront Burger Lounge and on the way to the lounge, we took the scenic route around the place. The Dune is located on the north side of the property and close enough to the ocean to experience an awesome breeze (which we did). Plus, there was what I’ll call vacation music playing in the background which added a good touch to the atmosphere. There is a Kobe Beef Burger with Foie Gras & Grape Jam but I didn’t have it. I just wanted to make you aware of its existence, lol. I had the Oregonzola Burger (thick bacon and blue cheese froth) with fries. I saw a Combo Platter on the menu with a hot dog & slider and decided, sure why not? The burger came first but let’s talk about the platter.

Combo Platter w/Hot Dog & Slider(s)

The dog was an all beef hot dog which I topped with some grey poupon. I thought it was great and had to rush through because I had a couple of sliders to get to. The first of the sliders was topped with cheddar cheese and was just a smaller version of their larger burger, maybe a tad bit juicier. The 2nd slider was a mini organic turkey burger topped with mushrooms and brie. Yes, there’s lettuce and tomato in the picture but I removed those guys. As a whole I thought the flavors worked well but I’m not sure I would just order a plain turkey burger here. The brie and mushrooms really brought something to it. The fries, while crispy, I didn’t really care for.

Let’s get to the main event. Wow. Just take a look at it. This burger was so damn good, as I write this my mouth waters. Great choice of toasted bun, the blue cheese froth, the thick bacon and the meat itself was all excellent. Here I am a few days later and I can’t get over how delicious it was. And that bacon with its smokiness…..I wanted to run into the kitchen and stuff my pockets with it, no joke.

With the weather cooling down at last in Miami, now’s a good time to come check out the Dune. I want to thank the Ritz-Carlton for the invitation and when you check out this burger, I ask one thing. Please save some bacon for me.

KB Burgers And More In Key Biscayne, Florida

KB Burgers & More opened up without much fanfare. I found out about it because someone emailed me that they had tried it out. I had honestly forgotten about it until another “report” came in about it. I drove to Key Biscayne and past the Miami Seaquarium (Miami’s marine life attraction) till I finally reached my destination. There isn’t really much of a sign but a small banner to the right of it. I walk in and size the place up. Everyone ahead of me had ordered the Colombian (mozzarella cheese, chips ,bacon, ham, pineapple and garlic sauce). I look over the menu and see there’s a Juicy Lucy on the menu. A Juicy Lucy is a burger stuffed with cheese (awesome to bite and watch the cheese ooze out). Good stuff, so I go with that . I also order their Euro Dog (served in half of a French baguette) with some fries. The cool thing is you can actually stand there and watch as they prepare your food (which I did). The problem with this is that I learned before I got to eat my burger that they use frozen burger patties. Part 2 of the problem is, how are they going to accomplish a Juicy Lucy with a frozen patty?  The answer is they didn’t. And one other thing, the menu says their burgers are 6 ounces but the Juicy Lucy is half a pound. Someone needs to brush up on their math. The fries are good and crispy shoestrings of the frozen variety.

The Euro Dog tastes like the kind of hot dog that would be inside of a corn dog. Now, I happen to like that flavor so I’m not complaining. There was ketchup, mustard and that Colombian garlic sauce on the dog which I liked but there was not enough of it.

It wasn’t spread evenly throughout the dog. How was the Juicy Lucy? Severely disappointing. Two burger patties with cheese in the middle a Juicy Lucy do not make.

It cost $12.50 which is really steep considering these are two frozen patties. Is KB Burgers & More worth a drive? I don’t know are you really that desperate to throw away your money on a frozen patty?
