Wanna be on Man v. Food?
Posted by: | Comments
The next season of Man v. Food won’t be arriving til Summer of 2011 but the show is going to be a little different this time around. They’re looking for the fans of the show to be involved in the episodes. The winners will get to participate in a Man v. Food challenge for the show in their hometown. I’m hoping Miami has a winner because I wasn’t too fond of all the locations selected for last year’s Man v. Food Live episode.
What do you need to to do to be chosen?
Man v. Food: Submit a video response on YouTube telling us about your town — where to go, what to see, where to eat and what dishes to get. If we select you, we might be headed to your town to make you an official part of the MvF Nation show.
Your video should look a lot like this:
There are some official rules you need to follow also and you can read those here.
Buffalo Cantina – Brooklyn, New York
Posted by: | CommentsThe Buffalo Cantina is best known for being the location of the pilot episode of Man v. Food. Adam Richman attempted a wing challenge in that episode that he could not complete and later of course returned to defeat the challenge, which brings us to why we’re here. My wife Marcela decided that she could do the challenge. I’ve seen her eat spicy food and I have no doubt she could also do it. Problemo numero uno (actually the only problem). The challenge shown on Man v. Food doesn’t exist. You can read about it below.

This Seppuku Challenge will not be as easy for Marcela to accomplish as it is dependent on not only withstanding the heat of the wings but doing it in a speedy manner also. While Marcela is getting mentally prepared and signing the waiver, I’m deciding what I’ll be eating while this is going on.

The tortilla chips (of the bagged variety) and salsa were served first. The salsa was good but nothing you probably haven’t tasted before.

The chili was also good and saucy, just how I like it. It was topped with a dollop (I finally got to use this word) of sour cream.

The pulled pork sliders was by far the best of what I had at Buffalo Cantina. They were served on Martin’s Potato Rolls but for the record, they’re not sliders but mini sandwiches. This is of course a discussion for another day.

Back to the Seppuku Challenge.
Seppuku Chalenge:
- Victim must sign waiver (while sober – seriously!)
- Eat a minimum of twelve (12) Seppuku* Wings in 3 minutes
- No getting up
- No Napkins! Sauce must stay on the wings. No wiping!
The Suicidal Wing Challenge on Man v. Food was 6 wings in 3 minutes but the Seppuku Challenge is 12 wings in 3 minutes with a sauce that is 10 times hotter. For those of you who might not know what Seppuku is, let me tell you about it. Seppuku was/is part of the samurai code. It involved sticking a sword into your own abdomen and slicing oneself (to the death) to preserve your honor.

Marcela was only able to eat 4 of the 12 in the allotted time. She was perfectly fine afterwards but I on the other hand had the great idea to try one. I didn’t fare as well, keep in mind this was not after one whole wing but just one bite:

Best part is what he told Al Norton from 411mania.com:
“Yes, that’s exactly the reaction we are going for. It bears noting, and I really do mean this, it’s not just going to be tune in, challenge, done. It’s a two hour event and we’re going to be in the Alexander Hotel in Miami Beach with the ultimate tailgate party. We’re bringing back chefs and restaurants from the first two seasons, we’ve got some correspondents, NFL athletes, fan v. fan challenges, fan v. food challenges, university of Miami cheerleaders…I’ve been trying to explain to people that it will be a cross between the Roman Coliseum and Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In.”
And for those lucky enough to have been chosen as one of the Tailgate Party, look for me, I’ll be there.

It’s going to be “a special real-time television event during America’s biggest football weekend in Miami, FL.” He’s going to attempt Shula’s 48 oz. Steak Challenge. I also heard a rumor that he might be checking out a certain bar on Biscayne Blvd known for its burger.
