At the 2012 SoBe Burger Bash earlier this year, Amstel Light  launched their “Savor Complexity” campaign. Amstel Light is of course a very big part of that event and the title sponsor so it makes sense they would keep their burger association going throughout the rest of the year.

The Amstel Light “Savor Complexity” poster above lists some great toppings and condiments associated with the humble burger. It concludes with the Complex Tale of the Burger:

A simple slice of pizza can be fine. A simple pasta dish can be great. But when it comes to a man’s burger, that’s a whole other meatball. Because you want that thing to tell a story. You want it to have chapters of flavor. You want its description on the menu to read like a bibliography – citing sources for each,
delectable ingredient. You don’t just want to taste the beef. You want to know
what kind of parents it had. Was it grass fed or corn fed? Was it free range or feedlot? What kind of hobbies did the cow enjoy? Every detail makes every bite that much more drippingly delicious. The burger is earth’s truest example of a single entity being greater than the sum of its parts. Because with an unbelievable burger, it’s not about simplicity. It’s ALL about complexity.

My final thoughts….It would make a great poster, don’t cha’ think?

Well, the picture says it all! Michael Symon and B Spot take the Amstel Light People’s Choice Award for the 2nd year in a row. This time his “Yo!” Burger with salami, provolone cheese, pickled onion and ShaSha sauce took top honors. Symon also won Heinz “Best Dressed” Burger for his use of condiments.

Marc Murphy (Landmarc) won the Golden Grill award for his Big Marc Burger (all beef burger on homemade black pepper and cheddar bun with spiked ketchup and housemade pickles). This is the judges’ award and handed out for best use of the Allen Brothers meat they were supplied.

Last but not least Miami’s Burger and Beer Joint Chef Carlos Barilla won for Best Side Dish with his truffle baked potato salad.

It’s hard to describe this event someone who hasn’t attended before. If you’re a burger fanatic then this is a must attend event for you. Even if you come hungry you’ll have a difficult time eating all 25 participants’ burgers and the 3 dessert folks’ sweets. This was the 5th year the event has taken place and all the former winners were here (2007: Shake Shack, 2008: Radius, 2009: Good Stuff Eatery and 2010: B Spot). All of our local burger spots did a great job and I didn’t have a bad burger last night. Check out some pics to get your mouth watering for next year’s event. Til then…

With the 2011 SoBe Burger Bash right around the corner, the Rachael Ray show is tying up some loose ends and select their representative. The magazine gathered submissions from folks all across the U.S. and the staff then narrowed down the entries to three: Paul Malvone (Boston Burger Company), Tommy Up (PYT Burger/Philadelphia) and Mauricio Oliveros (Frank-N-Burger/Long Island, NY).

They’re going to compete on the “Rachael Ray” show on January 13, 2011 for a spot on a Burger Bash roster that already includes big wigs like Bobby Flay, Masaharu Morimoto, & Michael Symon. Speaking of Michael Symon, he along with editor-in-chief of Every Day with Rachael Ray, Liz Vaccariello will be deciding the winner. Whoever wins will have a chance to bring home one of three (or maybe all three) of the SoBe Burger Bash 2011 Awards: Amstel Light People’s Choice Award, Allen Brothers Golden Grill Award & Heinz Best Dressed Burger. The Burger Bash takes place on February 24, 2011 and I hope to have a full list of the burgers being served soon.

To say I can’t wait for the 2011 Amstel Light SoBe Burger Bash is an understatement. The event is already stacked with South Florida Burgers that I love like Burger & Beer Joint, Latin Burger Truck, & Michael’s Genuine but I was ecstatic to find out that Charm City Burger Company and El Mago De Las Fritas will be both participating. El Mago De Las Fritas will be the 1st Frita ever to compete at a Burger Bash. The Frita has finally arrived!

What makes this really interesting for me is that 3 Burgie Award Winners, Best Burger Dade: Latin Burger, Best Burger Broward: Charm City Burger Company and Best Frita: El Mago De Las Fritas made the cut. It’s going to be an amazing competition. Don’t forget, tickets go on sale on Monday, October 25th and the Bash is taking place on February 24th, 2011.
