Thomas Monaghan is known for a few things (being a previous Detroit Tigers owner and Ave Maria University) and one big one, Domino’s Pizza. Funny Fact: He sold the Detroit Tigers to Mike Ilitch, founder/owner of Little Caesars Pizza. Monaghan is also the king of the delivery business if you ask me. Who can forget the Domino’s Pizza delivery under 30 mins commercials of the ’80s?
He’s decided at the age of 74 that he’s going to go into the “Gourmet Burger” delivery business. Gyrene Burgers will be opening its first location in Naples within the next couple of months. Gyrene is a nickname for Marines, I had no clue about that. It will be delivery and pick up only and possibly the prototype for a national burger delivery chain roll-out.
There will be no sides or drinks available, only burgers. 2 burgers to be exact:
Classic: Double Angus Beef Patties, Cheese, Bacon, Ketchup, Mustard and Pickle.
Deluxe: Double Angus Beef Patties, Cheese, Bacon, Ketchup, Mustard, Mayonnaise, Lettuce, Tomato and Pickles.
I’m looking forward to trying what his version of a delivered “Gourmet Burger” tastes like. Who knows, it might be pretty good. Keep your eyes peeled to http://www.gyreneburger.net for more info.
