Leo’s Pizza – West Miami, Florida

Leo’s Pizza has been sorely overlooked on BurgerBeast.com. It’s one of the few places that I frequent that I don’t think I’ve ever even mentioned on here. It might be because I’d like to think that everyone knows about Leo’s Pizza since it’s been around since the ’80s.

In the early ’90s there were only 3 Pizza Joints that I ate at: The Big Cheese, Frank’s Pizza (on SW 8th St & 81st) and Leo’s Pizza. I had just discovered how much better the little independent shops were than the Noid and all his corporate friends. The Big Cheese was not as close to my home base of Westchester so it was always a tough decision between Frank’s and Leo’s. Frank’s is now unfortunately closed.

One of the best things about eating at a Mom & Pop shop is the service you receive. You come here often enough and they know you and your likes. You call in to place an order, they recognize you and ask how everything’s going. It’s like that at Leo’s.

The Pepperoni Pizza would be my suggestion for your first time here. It’s delicious and they don’t skimp out on the pep. I like the straight up Cheese or if my wife is not around, the Pepperoni and Ground Beef Pizza. The crust is a little on the thick side but I’m OK with that.

The Fresh Baked Garlic Rolls are a must. You might be tempted to have them with Cheese but I say stick to the original. They’re tossed in Oil, Garlic powder and served in a little plastic bag. Proceed with caution as they are very addictive.

And last but not least is their Meatball Sub. The Meatballs are cut in half so there’s no struggle trying to get your mouth around these fellows. The Meatballs have an almost meatloaf consistency to them, they’re packed pretty tight. You add some Sauce, Mozzarella, the Toasted Hoagie Bread and you’ve got a winner of a Meatball Sub.

I hope you check out Leo’s Pizza and see why I love them so. They’ve never disappointed me and like all great neighborhood joints, they are there when you need them the most.

I love Leo’s, it’s my go-to spot as well since i live right by there. But I disagree with the garlic rolls suggestion. WITH CHEESE. Always!! Cause then you get to scrape off the extra melted cheese from the tray. And sometimes it’s slightly burnt to a crisp and mmmmm

You are right Leo’s. It seems to get overlooked and I’m just as guilty. The pizza here is actually pretty tasty. I prefer Leo’s over Frankies or any of the other spots in the area…yet Leo’s is the one I go to the least. Not sure why that is, I might go here tomorrow!
