It’s been almost a year since LoKal brought their burgers and beer to Coconut Grove, and while you may have visited them for your burger fix – have you stuck around for dessert?
Walk into this fun space full of re-purposed items, graffiti and great tunes and prepare to be wowed! The burger offerings are pretty fantastic, seasonal and local items strewn all over the place and a staff that’s friendlier than others I’ve experienced in the neighborhood.
Imagine you’ve had your fill of burgers, chili or a salad and now you’re onto dessert!
Start with something that will feel refreshing on a hot Miami day, LoKal Key Lime Pie.
This pie has all the good pie requirements. Start off with the amazing crust – graham cracker of course! The filling is not too sweet or too tart; it’s just a light refreshing flavor full of Florida key limes. Then it’s topped with whipped cream and nuts to give you a creamy finish with some crunch. Good luck sharing this with your table mates.
Next up on the LoKal dessert roster is their Puerto Rican Tres Leches. Yes, you read that right and no, you are not at Latin America. LoKal has taken this classic dessert and made it modern, fun and almost a little bit fancy-looking.
Part cake, part custard part fruit drenched in condensed milk this dessert is surprisingly not overly sweet! You won’t believe how easy it is to eat this whole thing. The strawberries and bananas add a fresh taste to this rich indulgence of a dessert. Eating this made me happy because many times when people try to update classic food items they fall short or fall too far from the original but this twist is just the right amount of an elevated look at Tres Leches.
If this huge meal has you feeling sleepy, wash it all down with some of LoKal’s Lavazza coffee options.
So if you’re in the Grove come to LoKal for the burgers but make sure you stay for dessert!
