Arnold’s Royal Castle Shuts Down

After rebuilding & re-opening after a fire 4 years back, it looks like Wayne Arnold’s Royal Castle is finally closed. It seems an armed robbery was the final nail in the coffin for the Miami landmark. Those of you still nostalgic for those magical sliders can hit up the last standing Royal Castle, located at 2700 NW 79th Street.

    That’s a shame.

There will never be anything better than a Royal Castle hamburger! So sorry this one is closing. It was the one in my old neighborhood and the one I visited many, many times. Hope no one was hurt during the robbery.

Its sad to see nostalgia disappear right before our eyes.

Too bad. I can remember a time when Royal Castle dominated Florida. Their signature sliders and birch beer were fabulous. My favorite was a pair of double burgers with cheese and extra onions – with a frosted stein of cold birch beer to wash them down. Burger King came along in 1954 and eventually blew Royal Castle out the door – into the pages of history. BTW: Royal Castle gets credit for a major fast food innovation – the concept of serving breakfast 24/7.
