The Counter Burger at the Miami Airport

The Counter opened its first South Florida spot a few years back at the Miami International Airport in one of those clearance areas where only travelers are allowed. I desperately wanted to try it, but since I don’t fly often, I realized the likelihood of that happening wouldn’t happen.

Then I heard another South Florida location was finally coming to the Aventura area, which meant it was time to start studying. Unfortunately, that location closed.

I went solo and started my meal with a Fat Tire on draft. After some perusing through the menu, I figured let’s do the chili cheese fries, deviled eggs, and their namesake sandwich, the Counter Burger.

The cheese, sour cream, and chopped onions can be important toppings in a chili, but they shed light on those here. Luckily, the chili itself was great. I didn’t care for the fries, which hurt any chances of making it worth ordering again.

The deviled eggs at $3 might be a little steep for some folks, but I didn’t have a problem paying that because I enjoyed them. The eggs were two boiled egg halves stuffed with creamy egg yolk & topped with bacon bits and parsley.

I would have preferred that this app be more substantial and include six portions instead of just two. I popped its current incarnation in my mouth, and they were gone right before my eyes in a split second.

Here it is, the Counter Burger

The Counter Burger comes with lettuce and tomatoes, which I had banished from my table (and life). I’m unsure if my burger was supposed to arrive in a “do it yourself” state, but the onion strings and the sun-dried tomato vinaigrette were served on the side.

I added some onion strings to my burger and dipped the burger here and there into the vinaigrette. The provolone and sautéed mushrooms were a great combo, but the burger never won me over.

I must return here and try a simple burger with American cheese, pickles, onions, and yellow mustard. That’s the real test! Or maybe add the chili; the chili should hit the spot.
