My introduction to the guys (now only Rusty) behind Passion BBQ was when they were doing the BBQ at the great but short lived Lunch American Style. They’ve since opened up the Passion BBQ Food Truck and now their brick & mortar home at Craft Bar & Q. Craft Bar & Q is
in soft opening mode open so the menu as well as the hours are not permanent. I’ve never had their ribs but can vouch for their Brisket and Pulled Pork Sandwiches which I most recently ate at this past weekend’s Wheelin’ Dealin’ Street Food Festival.
Since I originally wrote this post in March 2014, Craft Bar & Q has closed down but the Passion BBQ continues to operate around South Florida.
The Brisket Chili is interesting. It’s a deep plate with Brisket Chili and a chip covered Jalapeño Cornbread Muffin floating in the middle. If you love Chili and Cornbread this is the dish for you. It is a heavy dish so it might be better off sharing this one. The Nachos and Quesadillas do their job but nothing out of the ordinary happening here. I do like the fresh sliced Jalapeños instead of the bottled everyone uses. I don’t care for the round chips though, for me it’s triangle or nothing.
I love Horseradish and I love Potatoes so it’s only logical that I would love(2) the Red Bliss Horseradish Potato Salad. Who says no to Mac & Cheese? Alright let me rephrase that, who in their right mind would say no to Mac & Cheese? The answer is no one. It’s a very good creamy and cheesy Mac & Cheese that doesn’t need the truffle flavor.
Baked Beans with a chipotle BBQ flavor, sign me up. It has a little bit of kick for you wimpier types out there. And Corn with butter…..it’s good didn’t you know that already?
Here is a picture of my friend’s Spare Ribs order. I did not try ’em but they do look exquisite.
I’ve been in full Sandwich mode at Craft Bar & Q. The Texas style Brisket Sandwich with those Brown Sugar Caramelized Onions kills me every time. I don’t think there’ been a time that I’ve eaten from the Passion BBQ truck that I’ve skipped out on this sammy. The Davy Boy Burger topped with Pulled Pork and the Dirty Dog with the Slaw are worth an order if these guys are more your speed. The Dirty Dog had too much Slaw for my liking. I don’t want to downplay those two but I think the Brisket Sandwich and Holy Trinity Pressed Sandwiches are far superior. Speaking of the Holy Trinity Pressed Sandwich…..Brisket, Pulled Pork and Pulled Chicken with melted Cheese is a winner in the Burger Beast handbook. I could not say that I had the pleasure of enjoying the entire sandwich since my wife Marcela sneaked a bite half way through and then it became hers, the story of my life.
The desserts at Craft Bar & Q are from the Marlie’s Delights Dessert Truck. Chef Leslie Gallego and her hubby Mario make some of the best Brownies I’ve ever devoured. Craft Bar & Q serves their warm Bacon Brownie with a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream. Another good option is to have one the Craft Beer Floats.
I noticed subtle changes with each subsequent visit that made the food and service better. There’s a brunch on Sundays which is calling my name, I just wish I would answer.
