I remember it like it was the other day, the owners of Marlie’s Delights walked up to me at the National Hamburger Month edition of Wheelin’ Dealin’ Street Food Festival (May 2012) at Magic City Casino. They were launching a new Dessert food truck and were inquiring about openings in my events. This was back when I was curating somewhere near 10 events a month. I liked what they were offering and was happy to have Marlie’s Delights debut at the monthly Tobacco Road Food Truck Rally on Saturday, July 7th, 2012. And off they went to the races.
The first thing to settle before we get into the sweets is that there is no Marlie. They’re asked, “Who is Marlie?” on a daily basis….multiple times. So, who is Marlie? The name comes from a combination of the owner’s names, Mario Gallego and his wife Chef Leslie Gallego.
When trucks first start out, they grind it out at whatever events or opportunities that come their way. One night Marlie’s Delights was parked near my home at a Game Stop for some game release midnight sale. We stopped by and my wife Marcela ordered their Brownie with Vanilla Ice Cream. They use Valentini Ice Cream which is excellent if you’ve never tried it. Marcela was hooked.
They began to attend more and more of my events ’til I finally added them as a permanent weekly fixture at Food Trucks at Arts Park every Monday, that alone should tell you how much I think of the Desserts they’re producing.
As of this writing, I am currently obsessed with their Cinnamon Roll Apple Pie. Warm it up a little bit, add a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream and it doesn’t get better than that. Another favorite of mine is the Apple Pike, a mix of Cake & Pie. I’m an Apple fan, can you tell?
And be on the lookout for them when I’ve got a special event. Marlie’s Delights always hits it out of the ballpark with something like the Maple Bacon Cake Chipwich and Ice Cream Sandwich they made for our special Bacon themed event.
