Before we even get into food talk about BTW (Burgers Tacos Whiskey) on Alton Road please peruse the menu below.
I was originally going to get my BTW action on yesterday but ended up at Swine, trust me I’m not complaining about that.
My wife Marcela is out of town so that means I had free reign to order whatever I needed to best understand the menu. Btw (by the way not the restaurant’s name) that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
I had a hard time picking out only one thing out that I enjoyed but let’s cover the standouts.
All of the Tacos come on Flour Tortillas and we tried 4 (Brisket Barbecoa, Al Pastor, Pescado aka Fish & Carnitas) of the 5 available, we skipped out on the Pollo (Chicken). The Brisket Barbacoa (Slow roasted Brisket, Cotija Cheese,, Scallions & Guacaverde) was my favorite with the Al Pastor (Marinated & Roasted Pork Belly, Red Onion, Pineapple & Cilantro) a close second.
WARNING……..WARNING…….the Charred Serranos are brutal….I cried….I really cried………WARNING………WARNING
We were warned about the heat level on the Serranos but I still one bited them, big mistake. On the slightly more truthful level, I love heat and that wasn’t a complaint. I’m kinda used to people in Miami telling me something is hot and then it’s not, believe the BTW folks.
My Yankee Burger was a nice little gem with a great meat crust on the outside of the patty and the Dijonnaise added a creaminess that paired well with the Pickles & Red Onions. The melted American Cheese is the perfect binder for the flavors.
And the Chicago Burger? No idea, Steve didn’t let me try it.
The Queso Fundido (Chihuahua Cheese, Chorizo & Poblano Peppers) was perfect, even beyond perfect.
The 3 Little Pigs (Roasted Carnitas Al Pastor, Chorizo, Chihuahua Cheese, Refried Beans, Crema, Salsa Verde & Lettuce), one of the four Burritos on the menu closed out our meal. I loved it but I could have done without the Lettuce but then again I can do without Lettuce on everything I eat.
We finished up with a Twist Soft Serve of Vanilla-Churro and Chocolate-Chile. The Vanilla-Churro reminds me of Mantecado Ice Cream with its Cinnammon base, my favorite Ice Cream flavor. I could have used this dessert when I was tackling the Charred Serranos. Steve did enjoy a Serrano with his Soft Serve, he really did.
There’s more left for me to tackle on the BTW menu. I’m looking forward to trying all of the Burritos (yes, even the Veggie) and then finally making my way to the Whiskey. I’m committed, what can I tell you.
