Buns and Buns – South Miami, Florida – CLOSED

Buns and Buns - South Miami, Florida

I can’t believe I’ve been saying that I’m gonna hit up Buns and Buns for over a year and it’s now that I finally made it, better late than never.

I dropped in with Dro from the305.com who came along to snap some shots of Chef Reuven for our Burger Beast Burger Brawl Portraits.

Last year I had invited Buns & Buns to compete at the first Burger Beast Burger Brawl but they did not have a Burger on the menu…..yet. They assured me that the following year (2015) they would be in.

Before we get into it, you need to know that the good folks at Buns & Buns treated us to this meal.

Spinach poofs, my first thought is I’m wimpier than Wimpy from Popeye but let’s do this anyway. So the game changer is the Manchego Cheese, yes there’s green in it too but yes, it’s really awesome or as my cousin, Fred would say…it’s very VERY good.

I had exactly one fry from this pile of Truffle Fries. Why is that? Dro was eating them as if someone had a gun to his head. Ok, so maybe I’m exaggerating a little as to how fast he ate them but it makes for a better story, don’t you think?

He had the ridiculous Pork Belly with the house-made Bao Buns. I tried just a bite of the Pork Belly and that Bourbon Glaze took it over the edge. It might make for a nice topping on a future Burger:: hint::

I made a real attempt to eat the Knife and Fork Burger in normal fashion but it’s out of the realm of possibility to enjoy it this way. I was also very pre-occupied with staining the shirt I was wearing as I’ve received several death threats from my wife about that issue.

Don’t think about it, just go ahead, dig in whichever way you can. I used just a couple of techniques including the double hand, the knife & fork and the straw method (just kidding). And yes, it is as excellent as it looks.

One last thing, the Bun is made in house and it’s a tasty fellow. Somehow, it escaped the laws of gravity and did not disintegrate under the weight and juices of the Burger, a miracle right before my eyes.

By the time the desserts came out, I was just catching my second breath.

If I had to choose which of the two is superior between the Donuts and the Torrejas I’d double down on the Torrejas. I’m not a Nutella kinda guy and I am a Torrejas kinda guy. I’m also not a powdered sugar kinda guy but for the purposes of this test, I pretended I was.

I’ll be back, no buns about it. Do you see what I did there? I replaced “bones” with “buns”, I’m just so clever 🙂

Yes this place is beyond delicious, the service is so friendly and super fast. My kids and I enjoyed it when we went for a birthday dinner in March. Will definitely return soon.
