Blue Door Smokehouse – Lexington, Kentucky
I’m a bit ferklempt right now.
When my wife Marcela, my bud John and I walked into Blue Door Smokehouse we had no idea what we were in for.
Blue Door is a central Texas chop-house/chop-shop style BBQ joint that serves everything on trays with butcher paper. They’ve got a good 5 or 6 homemade sides but you won’t find cheese fries or anything like that here.
Here’s what I remember:
– I was about to try the sauces but the food arrived.
– Holy shit is that Brisket great.
– I don’t remember breathing while eating it.
– I moved onto the Smoked Sausage which I enjoyed but not as much as the Brisket.
– I was too stuffed to eat any sides.
– Marcela and John loved everything including the sides.
– I don’t remember walking out of Blue Door Smokehouse but that’s because I think I floated.
– Two days later John and I hit them up at 11am while Marcela was asleep.
– Holy shit is that Brisket great.
– I moved onto the Pulled Pork Sandwich which I enjoyed but not as much as the Brisket.
– I was too stuffed to eat any sides.
– We brought some Brisket back to Marcela so she wouldn’t kill us.
Calling it a “most excellent” experience a la Bill & Ted is probably the understatement of the year.
Oh yeah and holy shit is that Brisket great.

I think you mean verklempt.
Nope, I’m using the urban dictionary version. Click on the word in the story and you’ll see what I mean.
Having lived most of my life in Lexington before moving to Miami in January, my last meal at Blue Door were never-seen-before “burnt ends” of brisket. Sublime…
We absolutely loved Lexington.
