Red Rooster in Marco Island, Florida

One of the great surprises in life is being wrong when you’re sure of something, enter Red Rooster (1821 San Marco Road). I’m impatient whenever we stay in Marco Island on vacation with my family.

I usually grab breakfast wherever we’re at (I love Doreen’s) or do the coffee & donuts thing (Empire Bagel Factory), then I’m out and about for lunch in Naples or Ft. Myers. I thought I had exhausted all the spots to eat, not only for breakfast but lunch also.

Red Rooster is in the same strip mall as the Publix we frequent when in town. I don’t remember how I came across it, but I want to say I caught the name out of the corner of my eye when driving by.

My parents and I were both hungry and ready to go; everyone else stayed behind at the pool. So, it shouldn’t surprise you that we ordered the burger, in this case, the horseradish burger.

The meatloaf sandwich also didn’t escape our grasp.

The burger was nice and solid work with that horseradish cheddar cheese & crispy bacon, no complaints from us. Now, the meatloaf sammie was a work of art.

Those caramelized onions with chipotle ketchup were out of this world. I’m imagining myself eating it again right now, so dreamy. Oh yeah, get those sweet potato fries, definitely worth it.

Back the Next Day for Round 2

My Dad and I returned to Red Rooster a day later for breakfast. We’re always the first to rise and knew this would be an opportunity to have an excellent breakfast.

Papi opts for the Mexican Scramble (chorizo, tomatoes, onions, green chiles & cheddar cheese w/black beans, salsa, and sour cream) with a side of corned beef hash. I thought it was odd there were black beans on this menu.

Then I remembered meeting the Cuban owner initially from Miami a few nights back; it made sense now. My dad loved it all, and how you know, that is I didn’t hear one peep from him.

Your friend BB (that’s me, by the way) gets the Country Skillet (bacon, potatoes, onions, peppers & cheddar cheese) with a Hash Brown Casserole and some sausage links. So what was the first to go? The super-duper, highly addictive Hash Brown Casserole.

I truly loved my skillet, but scrambled wasn’t the way to go; two sunnyside-up eggs were. It’s a mistake that I certainly won’t repeat next time I’m in town.

We also managed to order some biscuits and gravy to share. A notable mention goes out to that chunky sausage gravy who made my day; you need to meet him.

There you have it; you can’t go wrong with either breakfast or lunch at the Red Rooster.

  1. Try The Crazy Flamingo on Marco Island. They serve the best Burgers and wings on the ISLAND. Don’t let the
Dive bar atmosphere scare you. Fresh seafood and the oyster are shucked to order right in front of you.
    A must try.
