When I was a kid in Westchester, Florida I would open my lunchbox at Rockway Elementary and the smell that came from it left everyone perplexed. My Mom aka Big Red had would pack me a Caserita Croqueta sandwich on white bread with American cheese and mustard.
The kids at my table had never seen such a thing and had no understanding of its greatness, yet. Once I shared a bite they were hooked and I could pretty much demand whatever I wanted in trade but I never did. I loved the sandwich Big Red made me. Actually, I still eat my Croqueta sandwiches this way.
Years later I would gain fame for my love of Burgers but the truth is my original and longest running love affair is with Croquetas.
You should also probably read about Frita Showdown which was the precursor to Croquetapalooza:
Since 2008 I’ve written about food in Miami and what made it so special. While others were chasing “Chefs” or whatever other “Cool” restaurants that were in the “Hipster” parts of town and were hot at the moment, I kept it real and wrote about the Miami that I love. What you see is you get, and that’s exactly what Croquetapalooza is.
The 6th annual Croquetapalooza is unapologetically Miami and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
These large scale events are hard to produce without the help of sponsors.

Burger Beast Burger Joint (yes, a shameless plug for my upcoming restaurant).
