I was vacay driving around Winter Park, hoping that something might catch my eye, and there it was…Antonella’s Pizzeria. It’s not a very large space, but it makes up for it with big flavors and friendly staff (including the owner, who told us the history of the place).
It’s tricky when I’m on vacation with my parents. We don’t see eye to eye on what to order, so sometimes it becomes an “if you order that, then I’ll order this” kinda deal.
We agree on ordering garlic knots, but trying to figure out one pizza to eat, ends up with half cheese and half Antonella’s pie (pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, onions, red peppers, mozzarella & tomato sauce). I felt we needed to try the house pie, but my mom didn’t want any part of that discussion.
We became friendly with the table next to us and offered them a couple of our garlic knots, which caused them to order some knots; who can blame them? They were “en fuego” (NBA Jam-style).
Pizza Battle
My pops, who stayed neutral during the pizza battle, enjoyed Antonella’s pie, while my mom stuck exclusively to the cheese. The cheese was good, but come on, there’s a reason the “Antonella’s” is named after the owner. It was born to be a winner.
One of my other afflictions with pizzerias is the lack of control whenever I see a meatball or chicken parmesan on the menu; in this case, a chicken parmigiana was the culprit.
If I weren’t writing this post right now, I’d drop everything and make the 243-mile trip back to Antonella’s Pizzeria just for this fella for real.
But the adventure is not over; next trip, I’ve got my sights set on the Meatball Parmigiana Hero and the Meatboli. Meatboli? Exactly.
