Before we even get into food talk, I love the Apocalypse BBQ name, but I love the Natural Born Grillers tagline even more.
I first ate Apocalypse BBQ food during the pandemic. You would direct message them through Instagram, and they would give you the address and time for pickup.
Back then, your safest bet for trying a variety was a brisket platter with some ribs thrown in for good measure.
Apocalypse BBQ found a permanent home a few years later with a full bar at the Killian Greens Golf Course. The smokey aroma had me floating to their door from my car.
What To Start With
There are a handful of starters, and if you’re like me, who likes to try everything, bring some friends. At the very toppy top of the starters list is the brisket bacon.
Do you remember what I said about bringing friends? Well, I take it back. Please do not share the brisket bacon because no one will appreciate its tastiness more than you.
The smokafried wings are great, but there is something very special about the brisket and cheese empanadas. These fellas are fried, which is perfect cause the crispy exterior adds a nice crunch to the meaty interior.
While cornbread isn’t a starter per se, it is more of a side dish. I wouldn’t share this guy, either. The menacing, hot honey-drizzled cornbread shaped like a skull is so nice to look at that you might consider saving it for a Halloween display.
Don’t! Gobble it up as if it were the last cornbread in the apocalypse.
Award Winning Burgers
After their initial BBQ pick-up situation, Apocalypse BBQ moved on to pop-ups around town, some of which revolved around smash burgers. Jeff switched to a griddled five-ounce beef patty when the full-fledged restaurant opened.
On March 31st, 2023, I crowned the new Hamburger House Party champions, and they were Apocalypse BBQ! Their “Wild Boar,” a cheeseburger with cowboy candy and house-smoked brisket bacon on a Martin’s Potato Roll, sealed their victory.
The Wild Boar is part of the regular menu at Apocalypse BBQ, and you should know about one other five-ouncer: the Jefe Burger. This fella keeps it simple with cheese, pickles, and a special sauce, my kind of burger.
More Food Talk
On the two occasions I visited Apocalypse BBQ, they were out of brisket, my go-to meat at any BBQ establishment. So, a brisket sandwich was out of the question, and I’m not much of a pulled pork guy. I save myself for Cuban Pan con Lechon.
However, I’m thrilled to report that the ribs are better than ever if that’s any consolation.
If you’ve somehow managed to leave some space, eat one of their chocolate chip cookies. Or, take six home with you like I did cause they’re that good.
It’s important to note that the wait times at Apocalypse BBQ can exceed an hour. And yes, like all real BBQ spots, they run out of the more popular food items as the day progresses.
Lastly, there is no phone number, so stop looking for one cause you won’t find it.
