I consider myself not only a sandwich connoisseur but also a meatball one. And with that being said, it should be no surprise that I’m on the constant search for the best meatball sub.
I’ve been eating a couple of these meatball subs for around 30 years, which is nuts now that I think about it. Shout out to Frank’s Pizza (81st & SW 8th Street) which closed years ago but was another of my all-time favorites.

The Big Cheese

The Big Cheese has comfort food that tastes exactly as you remember it. It had been years since my last meatball hero at Big Cheese, and it tasted exactly as I remembered it.
When I finally got my driver’s license, the Big Cheese was one of my destinations to eat a white pizza with a meatball sub-chaser.

Di Piazza Italian Restaurant

I worked less than a mile from Di Piazza Italian Restaurant for about a year. During that time, I ate many pizza pies and meatball parmigiana subs.
It’s been more than twenty years since that pre-Burger Beast version of me, but I still remember the tasty meatballs from Di Piazza. A recent visit reminded my taste buds about what I’ve been missing.

East Side Pizza

East Side Pizza‘s meatball sub was the sandwich that launched the Burger Beast blog in September 2008. My cousin Manolo (R.I.P.) suggested I try it, but when I showed up, there was a burger on the menu, and the rest is history.
He was right…oh, was he right! The sprinkled parmesan on top of the melted cheese is the proverbial cherry on top.

Leo’s Pizza

Leo’s Pizza has always been on the delivery rotation to my parent’s home in Westchester. We’re talking; we go way back to 1993.
My go-to pie is ground beef & pepperoni and, of course, a meatball sub. I’ve been to Leo’s Pizza and only eaten a meatball sub, but there’s never been a time where I only ate the pizza; that tells you everything.

Pizza Johny’s NY Style Pizza

I’ve been eating Johny’s meatball parmigiana since he was co-owner of Little Louie’s on Bird Road. This sando made the jump from one restaurant to the other unscathed and possibly even better!
You know the deal, homemade meatballs with sauce and mozzarella always win out in the end. And at Pizza Johny’s, you get the real deal from a real fella from New York.

Pizza Scene

One day, out of the blue, a friend of mine asked if I had eaten at Pizza Scene. He’s a regular there, but for some reason, he never thought to invite me for lunch.
So I went without and enjoyed some great garlic rolls, pizza, and of course, a meatball sub. This beauty reminds me of a meatball sub from my youth, I’m glad we could reconnect.

Roman’s Pizzeria

Roman’s Pizzeria is a Miami Springs neighborhood pizza joint. And like any great local spot, the sandwiches are spot on.
The meatball sub is so freakin’ good; here’s to hoping you’ll make the drive to the Springs for this guy.
