Miami’s Best Sandwich at the Gay8 Festival

For the Gay8 Festival (LGBTQ art, music, and food street festival), I created Miami’s Best Sandwich competition. It features restaurants handpicked by yours truly because of their really great sandwiches. All of the restaurants will be selling their creations to the public, along with some of my other favorites.

The Judges were Carlos Frias (Miami Herald Food Editor), Cari Garcia (Fatgirl Hedonist), Diandra Lamas (Yelp Miami Community Manager), Reuben Ruiz (Next Food Network Star & Chef/Owner of Airport Cafe), and yours truly, Burger Beast.

The sandwich came with mariquitas (fried plantains) and a black bean dip, which was also very good. All five judges unanimously decided that the Vaca Frita Sandwich was the winner.

A special THANK YOU to the nine participants in this first edition of Miami’s Best Sandwich: Doce Provisions, El Exquisito, La Camaronera, Latin House, Mixto, Odaly’s Delight Cafe, Sanguich de Miami, Sergio’s, and Tio Colo.

I can’t wait for next year to see who steps up to the plate to challenge Latin House for the title of Miami’s Best Sandwich!
