Bradenton Donuts in Bradenton, Florida

We’re driving around Bradenton when a building with a whole bunch of character catches my eye. I know that structure; it’s an old Mister Donut building.

This location opened as Mister Donut in 1966, and it’s been Bradenton Donuts (4616 14th St W) since the early 1990s.

The donuts at Bradenton Donuts are potato raised, which means the base for making them is more potato than flour. In some cases, there is no flour at all.

As I’m known to do, I favor all donuts devoid of color. So we take a half dozen, including an old-fashioned, glazed, French cruller, small apple fritter, maple raised, and a Boston creme.

Their donuts are airy and slightly lighter than you would typically find at your average donut spot.

I’m always all about the apple fritter, but that old-fashioned was just divine. I could go for a couple of those about now with a dark roast cup of coffee, a little bit of cream, and light sugar.

Why do I work myself up like this when I know that Bradenton Donuts is almost four hours from me. Maybe I’m a crazy, or maybe, just maybe, I’m jumping in my car right and making the drive over there.

  1. Those donuts sound a lot like donuts my brother used to bring home on visits from the University of Illinois from a place called Spudnuts. I think that was a national chain but there’s only a couple left in LA that I see online I remember them as he best donuts ever.
