Casola’s Pizzeria in Miami for Subs

Since 1982, Casola’s Pizzeria and Sub Shop has been serving belly-busting food portions. It opened a walk-up window with a few small tables for seating.

Casola’s would expand 10 years later after taking over the 7-11 convenience store next door. You could finally enjoy your food in a comfortable air-conditioned space.

I was first there when they were transitioning, so I did get to eat a few slices and subs at the open-air counter. The cheesesteak has always been the sub to order.

The portions at Casola’s Pizzeria are generally larger than average; sometimes, that isn’t necessarily good. The pizza is average to good, depending on who makes the pies. Plus, the more toppings you add, the less likely you will taste the cheese and sauce.

Casola’s Burger?

Now, my cousin Fred doesn’t get scared easily of food, but Casola’s Pizzeria is one of those rare cases where he did. When I went and got our burgers with fries, I could tell from the look in his eye that he would not be able to eat them.

In his defense, he had just eaten a plate of seafood at his Mom’s house before this, but being the trooper he is, he chose to join in on this assignment.

Our original plan was to hit up Hooters, but I then decided Casola’s would be the place to eat since I remembered how over-the-top the burger is.

Casola’s is mainly known for its pizza and subs, but many are unaware of their signature burger: a 16-oz double cheeseburger with grilled onions and Italian sausage slivers.

The burger patties suffer a similar fate to pizza with too many toppings. While the burger itself is not very flavorful, the grilled onions, cheese, and Italian sausage slivers shine through.

Is this one of the best burgers I’ve ever had? Not really. If you consider yourself a fan of burgers, then challenge yourself to down one of these fellas and see if you agree with my assessment.
