We were driving through Chattanooga (mostly to visit Moonpie’s headquarters) when Champy’s World Famous Fried Chicken popped up.
The rustic shack look of the restaurant had me in the mood before I had even ordered one thing.
Those starters (Fried Jalapeños, Smoked Sausage Cheese and Pickle Plate, Wings & Chicken Fingers) were all delicious.
The portions were generous and tasty, which made it difficult to leave some space for the fried chicken.
I kept picking at them even when I got my fried chicken on.
HOT TAMALES, HERE?
I was super excited to find out that hot tamales were on the menu, something that my wife Marcela and I came to love when visiting Clarksdale, Mississippi, a couple of years back.
These hot tamales were right on the money, so much so that we took some to go.
The Champy’s fried chicken was crispy, juicy, and seasoned perfectly.
The mashed potatoes and baked beans rounded out my platter, which I loved.
I’m not sure how we did it, but we finished up the meal with some of their homemade strawberry cake, just perfect.
While sitting there thinking about how much I enjoyed my meal, I realized that we’re a long way from Miami, Florida.
The good thing is they’ve got locations in 2 states (Alabama & Tennessee), which means I’m likely to reencounter them on another road trip.
Now, if we could get them to send me some Mississippi Delta Homemade Hot Tamales, I’d be set.
