I had been waiting ever so patiently for Doce Provisions (541 SW 12th Avenue, Miami) to open. Finally, chef Justin Sherrer and his wife, chef Lisetty Llampalla have come up with a great comfort food menu that’s not dumbed down for the masses.
I met Justin when he was the chef at the Cinebistro at Dolphin Mall. Lisetty’s background includes working under chef Ralph Pagano for a few years.
Before we talk about the food, I loved another thing about Doce Provisions. The backyard area is a perfect little spot for hosting parties and events.
Below is a selection of what I tried except El Cubano, of which I only snapped a picture. The chefs were kind enough to treat me to this meal but not for lack on my part of trying to pay; they won this time.
My highlights were the chorizo croquetas made with Miami Smokers‘ chorizo. The smoked sea salt is what makes those croquetas so divine.
As a side note, these croquetas won the Judge’s Best Croqueta award at my event Croquetapalooza in 2017 and 2018. Ok, back to the action.
The Pan con Bistec with its juicy steak bits and finally that Coconut Tres Leches (which blew my mind) rounded out my top 3 favorites.
I skipped over the Doce Burger on purpose. At first glance, it looks the opposite of what I’d enjoy in a burger with all that color. However, upon a flavor dissection, those things combined to pack a powerful combination.
I ate it as is and did not remove a thing; what’s more, I enjoyed it. Damn you, Justin and Lisetty!
